Greetings.
I am thinking of getting the nitro piston air rifle thats sold at Canadian Tire. It has the same specs and looks like the Trail NP All Weather 495fps.
I'm in the process of getting my PAL so I can keep my late dads handguns (see sig line), and was wondering if it would be a decent gun to get and if it can be tuned up later to match the Trail NP All Weather spec of up to 950 fps after I get my Pal, or should I wait and get the higher velocity model.
I should mention I plan on using it for plinking/target practice and "RAT PATROL " in my backyard. |

AFAIK those gas pistons are non user-adjustable. Although you may be able to.
Are you shooting RATS or mice? All the RATS around here (closest ones live in Philly) are like squirrels. For mice, a non-PAL rifle should do just fine. No need to over penetrate. I would be very interested to see how a low velocity gas piston performs in the accuracy department. |

The rats I have coming into my yard (up to 12 at a time) range is size from a human fist, to about 3 or 4 lbs in weight (my mother used to mistake them for rabbits at times). I was using my crosman, but the seals have finally gave out, and the rats just laugh at the pellets fired from my gecado or luftpistol (both .177). They're also not afraid of me, even when I'm pushing a gas powered mower around the yard.
I'd put out poisened bait for them, but I don't want to kill the other wildlife around here (rabbits/foxes).
I haven't heard any of the np guns in use, so I'm hoping the stated bit about being 70% quieter is somewhat accurate, as the nice (means idiot) neighbour behind me has had the nice detectives pay me visits twice since my parents have died (not about firing the pellet guns though). |

That's the one.
I'm considering waiting until I get my pal and getting a decent .22 air rifle.
Right now I kind of like the looks of the Trail NP XL 1100, although I know the specs are inflated somewhat after reading some of the reviews.
I'm also going to look at some of the other makes also.
I'd really like this one, http://www.pipersprecisionproducts.com/ , but I think it would definately be illegal to posess in the Great White North. |

It's an airsoft product, shoots below 500fps and I don't believe is a "replica" of anything- so technically it should not be illegal in Canada. However, it would be a good idea to have the CFC evaluate it for catalog/registry classification before trying to get one into Canada. |

| I could not get the link to work but If it is an airsoft type gun then you won't be killing any rats with it as it will have almost no power. the BB's for air soft are very light weight and soft plastic. |

There's a video on the website that shows it blasting a hole in a 1 in thick wood board.

Isn't it amazing what shows up when you have a yard full of bird feeders and bird baths... Even in a city |

If they aren't afraid of the mower, then why are you bothering to use an airgun for this job?
My JohnDeer riding mower blades go down to a minimum of about 1"...
How tall are your critters? |

Unfortunately, the critters move out of the way, and I'm not about to chase them around the yard with the mower. |

Yes well look at what the Colorado river did by just flowing across the ground and creating the Grand Canyon. Yet a drop of water will not kill a rat by penetration just like an airsoft BB wont penetrate a rat. Even if enough of them could beat a rat to death. That is if you could get the rat to sit still and be beaten to a pulp while you shoot. |

I am thinking of ordering this same rifle off of scopesandammo and i also eventually want to mod it up but yeah i was just wondering are you saying that the more powerful model doesnt shoot 950 but more towards 650? or are you saying the more powerful model shoots 950 but you will only be able to get the 495 moded up to a 650? |

| The "900fps" model will shoot up to around 720fps using 14.3gr pellets. The "detuned" model can be brought up to this level as well (with a $90.00 kit)- but as is becoming more and more common, the "numbers" alot of manufacturers are claiming are using super-light pellets that no one would ever try to use for actually shooting something. |
