Anyone own one of these things for airgun pellets? Most I've come across are for airsoft plastic BB applications- but a couple are supposed to be for proper lead pellets or steel BBs.
However, I'm wondering how well they work? The couple I've seen were made of steel and it seems unlikely a stock-tuned pistol of less than 400fps could move it.
Does anyone have experience with these things? Are they worth the $20-50 they cost? |

Hi
I have tried a knockdown tqarget like the one's at this site http://www.nockover-targets.co.uk/cordless_hunter_rabbit.html
and they work Ok just need repainting now and then.
The way they work is explained on the site, if you find then to expensive to import then make your own, which I don't think would be to difficult.

That cordless rabbit looks pretty good. I cannot see the mechanism used to 'reset' the top target- the picture looks like a crumpled lump of aluminum foil is between the upper and lower targets!
Any idea what is aiding the return of the upper target? I should be able to build such a target... |

hi Eric
I think when you hit the top target it drops backward and is held down by a magnet, when you hit the reset target it lifts the top target off the magnet and the two little springs each side ( where it looks like foil ) lift it back up.
If you copy the picture's and blow them up it helps to see better what happens. I could be totaly wrong but thats how it seems to me.

Yes- I captured the pics and expanded them to try and see the mechanism better- but they couldn't take it and got too fuzzy. I guess I'm going to have to experiment a bit! |

Gamo make a "rat" and a "squirel" target that resets with a pull-cord. You need to strike a central "Kill-zone" to get the target to fall. They also make a moving "deer" target which runs along a special rail. It's powered by batteries, auto resets and auto reverses when it gets to the end of it's track. I also think Caldwell make a couple of "air" targets that you can reset by shooting a seperate reset paddle.
There are most probably lots of these things on the market, we just don't get to see many down here in OZ! |

Hi Hilly DownUnder
Welcome to the site, like you say there are lots of knockdown targets on the market, and there not difficult to make provided you have a few tools and basic metalworking skills.
As they say on the TV here's one I made Yesterday.
Great fun to shoot.

Nice work Al, looks fairly simple to make too. Any problems with the link between the "paddle" and the target face? Is there a magic formula to determine the length or did you just pick a length that looked about right? |

Hi Hilly DownUnder
I'll do a drawing with the sizes on later to day, it's easy to make.

Hi Hilly
Here's the setting I used on my rabbit The hight is 190mm, the length of link X can be altered so that the target disc arm locks with the rabbit upright, the adjusting screw supports the bottom of the disc arm to stop it falling forward
One other thing the rabbit is 2mm thick but the disc needs to be 3mm.

Hmmmmmm, very simple, very neat design. Thank you for posting the drawing. Just to show my complete ignorance, what program did you use to do the drawing? |
