For some reason my wife thought our 17-year-old son needed another Nerf gun for Christmas (complete with talking target). He already had a Gatling type. Knowing that big sister would soon be a target, I bought one for her. Then my son comes to me asking if a Nerf gun can be modified, and I said "sure."

The gun is interesting in that it has a check valve at the breech. Air can only enter the barrel if the tail of the Nerf dart pushes the valve open. It closes after the dart has traveled about 1 cm. down the barrel. We yanked the valve out. That, plus a lube tune with a can of silicone.

In stock form it pushed the 22.37 grain dart at a muzzle velocity of 49.75 FPS (0.1230 FPE). Modified it achieved the brutal speed of 51.32 FPS (.1309 FPE). Which is neither here nor there, since big sister later confiscated all the darts in the house.

You see how easily one can fall into the depraved abyss of airgun abuse? One day you're shooting your Crosman, declaring that you can "give it up any time." The next day you're modifying Nerf guns.

You could always do a 3K psi HPA conversion and end up
with a PCP nerf gun.

Or a close encounter of the lacerating kind with all the plastic shards. Four springs and the screws are the only metal in there.

The bore measures 0.525" They all have that spike in the middle (and the darts have a corresponding hollow tail).

In most cases the foam tail rests in the bore, with the somewhat larger head outside the gun. I'm sorry I can't say how much larger, since the older sister has hidden all of younger brother's darts. Except for the one that bounced off her head and got lodged in the Christmas tree - we're still looking for that one.

The sonic darts that whistle as they fly are the best.

The closest ID tubing I can get is 0.527" but for darts... It should be close enough...

I will make an upper end for a 2240 just for Nerf darts...

Don't tell your son... It could hurt allot more if he was to shoot is sister with this thing...

This should be fun!

Wait a second... I could just make an adapter to go on the end of the barrel... Humm that sounds easier...

I am heading to Kmart or Target to see if they sell just the darts....

My suggestion would be to take your 1088 and make a new brake, along these lines:

Walmart sells replacement darts, so you don't have to buy the plastic gun.

Across the living room, through the dining room, and all the way across the kitchen.

Stop thinking like me! I looked at the foam practice golf balls while I was there... I did not buy some... I don't have the 1.5" tubing I would need...

I did score on a 16 pk of the standard darts and a 10 pk of the Sonic Micro Darts... I passed up the glow in the dark ones...

I have to change my shirt and wrap my wrists and then it is down to the shop!

I will shoot video later...

What kind of bad idea is an AR-15 that shoots golf balls?
