We actually have a pair of greys that live in our maple grove, down
by the creek where we barbeque, that I let be. They are fun to watch.
We don't feed them though. That would bring trouble and I would
have to remove the trouble causers. When we first bought the property,
the previous owners had been feeding them for years and
they were running amuck in the house attic and grarage loft. I had to
cull the herd to a manageable/fun number.

My sentiments exactly.

Just an interesting side note, I read an article a month or so ago, racoons are now the "in" dish at certain swanky restaurants. Never ate one myself, but if you end up with that carcus, you can probably get some recipes on line. Smile

Smile . funny this can of worms stopped wigglin for a while, but our new member took the lid off- three cheers for the new member- "old pa" -welcome!

And I thought that Jeffery Dahmer was the only one who ever ate coons. Mr. Green

I just ran across a stew recipe in a cast iron/dutch oven cookbook for raccoon. The helpful tip was to make sure to remove the musk glands from both front armpits or you were really going to be sorry! Yikes! Come to hink of it, my sainted wife, She Who Must Be Obeyed, is still looking for a 12VDC crockpot for me so that my Spring prairie poodle safari can be entirely "self sufficient". Flasher

seems easier to use an inverter or rechargable generator than to find a 12v crock pot......

Sorry guys, it was a joke; SWMBO intended for me to live off of PDs that had just been centered up with a modern polymer tipped .223 bullet at high velocity, hair, viscera and all. Now me, I prefer a nice medium rare steak with some dark ale, or perhaps something Mexican and spicey with a bucket of Dox XX amber, or maybe a nice garbage omelette and Chipotle Tabasco with homefries and Heinz 57 and a tart Pinot Grigio after a hard day in a dog town.

If I'm not mistaken isn't a garbage omlett one with any and all leftovers etc?

Thought i''d help out: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,raccoon,FF.html

You I've camped out for years and I've used those wonderful wood powered cookers. The last time we had some strips pf meat that we scewered on green maple sticks and cooke over an open fire. of course I'd always gotten by with salt, my son, the gormet had his exotic spices he rolled it in. Rolling Eyes

I can remember camping in the woods after eating a mixture of canned chile and brown beans we threw together in a skillet. Could probably have used one of those racoons that night.

Crazy LOL

I use the term "garbage" at home with omlettes, salads and pizzas, for the most part. For me, it means a bunch of ingredients, more than you would get eating out, and possibly something unusual, but not everything left over in the icebox. Garbage omlettes I cook have seasoned eggs (eggbeaters, these days) with garlic, onions, mushrooms, green pepper, sundried, fire roasted or regular tomatoes, ham or bacon, and some kind of cheese (cheddar/swiss/goat/feta/blue). And, of course, the hot sauce. Run Away
