That is cool, thanx for posting it. Maybe some day, 100 years from now, there will be an egghead finding one of my airguns leaning against a pine tree in the NJ Pine Barrens...oh, waitaminnit...my guns are all Chinese, so they'll probably bio-degrade to dust by then;)

I really makes you wonder what happened to the owner. Did they just walk away and forget to pick it up, were they lost and had run out of bullets and dumped the rifle. because it was just dead meat, or maybe they were shot by someone else who did not know the gun was there?
Whatever I don’t think we will ever find out after all of this time.

Not even the Indians would leave an empty rifle, ammo was too easy to come by. The prior owner's bones are most likely nearby. The 44-40 cartridge was one of the most popular of the time, because it was chambered in both rifles and revolvers.
