Hello everyone!

I’m new here and excited to join this community as I embark on teaching my 12-year-old son about firearm safety and marksmanship. I want to start with something simple and practical to help him understand the basics, like bullet trajectory, scope adjustments, windage, and elevation.

Right now, I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 with a BSA 4x32 scope, which has been great fun so far. I’m thinking about expanding our collection to find a rifle that fits our needs perfectly—something classic and reliable without too many bells and whistles. I’m specifically looking for a straightforward, consistent rifle to help teach the fundamentals. I’ve been considering the Crosman 1760SE, but I’d love to hear recommendations from more experienced folks here.

Also, does anyone know of any clubs in the Reading, PA area? If there aren’t any, would anyone be interested in starting one?

Looking forward to learning from you all!

Welcome to the online forum.

Unfortunately, most online forums have little traffic these days as almost everyone has moved to "social media" platforms (which, unfortunately, do not really archive things well, or make anything that is around easy to find- they really are not meant for proper information beyond social engagement)- so it's a bit of crap-shoot when you ask a question if you'll get an answer quickly.
