Greetings all, new here and hoping to find some answers from those more experienced and knowledgeable than I.

I have two very nice Bayerische Sportwaffen Fabrik air rifles that were given to me by the original owner of the BSF factory when I was a kid, so very sentimental pieces and I want to do things properly to restore them back to usable condition. They have not been fired in over 50 years to my knowledge. They were stored at my parents' home and recently came into my possession once again. I have no interest beyond some target shooting at home but think it would be fun to do that. First, however, I'm sure there are things that I need to attend to.

Am I in the right place here or would another forum/existing thread be the place to look?

The larger has the designation "S70 Kal.4.5", the smaller "Bavaria 35." If I remember they both shoot the same size pellets. Here they are:

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I think I'll need to start from the ground up and welcome the challenge, just kind of need a step-by-step tutorial on how to go about it if such a thing exists and preferably, that deals with these specific types of rifles.

Thank you very kindly.

You should do a search for rebuilding spring guns in general (all springers are similar enough in basic layout. It appears your BSF rifles have a layout more similar to to Diana rifles or perhaps Weihrauch rifles (Weihrauch bought out the last version of the BSF company in the 1980's)- so you should look at disassembly of these two manufacturers products to get in at least the right ballpark.

The issue may be parts- as these rifles or similar models haven't been made in 40 years, the availability of any direct-fit parts may be an issue (i would suggest checking with Weihrauch directly in Germany to see if they might have anything). If none are available, you might be able to put together something using a modern urethane piston seal (I am going to take and educated guess that the seals in your rifles are 1").

Thank you for the suggestions, Eric. And yes, I had read that about Weihrauch and will have a look. Herr Schütt, the founder of the company, my father and I hunted together during much of the 50s and 60s. His daughter, Liselotte, assumed the direction of the factory after his passing and she just passed away recently, otherwise I would have had a great reason to get back in touch with this part of my history.

I need to know some things though, and am fairly confident I can disassemble the rifles but from there.....afraid I don't know much about them. I had also read that there may be a leather piston seal which, if it can be rejuvenated with some kind of oil, might actually be workable but, as I said, I know nothing and it is all going to be an adventure. I will do a search on Weihrauch and Diana air rifles.

Anything else you think of, please just let me know. Appreciate your reply.
