If the valve casing isn't damaged- replace all the seals (your description makes it appear you missed a couple).

You can get a complete seal kit here: http://airgunseals.com/product_info.php/crosman-10081088-seal-kit-p-1057

-which comes with the sealing 'puck' at the top of the valve as well as all the others.

If the valve stem seal on your Crosman 1008 is anything like on the S&W 79G which was designed by a Crosman person, maybe you can recondition it like I did with mines. Turn down a piece of plastic, teflon or polyurethane, on a drill or lathe to fit into the valve stem. If there is a spring inside the valve, maybe it needs to be stretched a little to provide more closed force so the gas will not leak out during idle.
It has been quiet here, seems maybe some members migrated to another airgun site.

Looking at the diagram of your pistol, the valve does come apart. It needs to be looked at carefully to see if any seals are cracked or if there is any small debris on them. There are lubes that will destroy new rubber seals such as WD40. Sometimes having another person look into it might find the problem.
