I have done quite a bit of nickle plating, but in quite a different way.

I clean and then immerse the piece to be plated in a bath of nickle acetate.
I use a 12 volt DCV <1A power supply with the negative lead (cathode)
hooked to the part and the positive lead (anode) hooked to a pure nickle
welding rod as the source of consumable nickle. I directly plate the piece
with nickle only (sans copper).

If nickle acetate is not readily available you can make your own with nickle
and vinegar. Powder the nickle and then oxidize it first though.

Use eye, skin and breathing protection while plating or manufacturing
chemicals AT ALL TIMES!

Be very careful with skin contact and inhalation of even very small amounts
of vapors!!!

It works great and produces a very durable Finish. Very good for some
bearing surfaces (especially trigger groups).

As a side note. I have gained accuracy in some of the guns I get with really rough bores (you know who you are out there, late model English Webley Patriots, some BSAs and a lot of American guns. Slug your barrel and see)!

I have plated the inside of some of the for said barrels with great results.

3-4 VDC <200mA. Low power for slow thin plating. It really made a
2003 Patriot shine.
