22st Annual Kalamazoo Airgun Show & Daisy Get Together

This show started 22 years ago with a few Daisy bb gun collectors in the backyard of Bob Surface’s home in Swartz Creek, Michigan. It has grown over the years and now boasts over 106 tables of bb guns, airguns of all makes and models, and toy guns. The name of the show was changed last year to the Kalamazoo Airgun Show & Daisy Get Together to better describe that the show welcomes all types of airguns from antique to modern. This show is a wonderful informative gathering of collectors, shooters, friends and good times. Last year air gunners from approximately 16 states attended the show. Every year the show has been sold out, and the managers expect the same this year.

In addition to the approximately 106 tables of airguns, bb and toy guns for sale each year we try to feature a special airgun model or maker. This year the featured airgun is the Quackenbush Air Rifles. Quackenbush was located in Herkimer New York and produced airguns from about 1871 to 1929. There were several pistol models and 11 rifle models produced. One of the most interesting and rarest models was the “Lightning” or model number Zero. It was powered by rubber bands, had a smooth bore barrel and shot darts. It was produced in 1884 and 1885 with only 354 of this model made. Another very interesting model is the number 5 Combination rifle. It was designated the Combination Rifle because the most common version could function as an air rifle or shoot .22 rim fire ammunition. It was produced from about 1884 to 1913 with total production of about 3,250. The Quackenbush guns are great to collect for several reasons. They were very well made and can be found in excellent condition, there were many models and variations and they look so unique. In addition to the guns, Quackenbush was the leading maker of nut crackers and nut picks for many years. You may have one in your home right now. Look for HMQ in a circle on the top of the nut cracker.

Several authors will be autographing copies of their books at the show. John Groenwold, author of “Quackenbush Guns”, Larry Behling author of Air Machine Guns, and Gary Garber author of “An Encyclopedia Of Daisy Plymouth Guns”. Garber’s book is a new edition and contains a new chapter on Daisy bb tubes written by Bob Boccaccio who also will be available for an autograph. This show will be the first time the new edition will be offered for sale and Mr. Garber will be offering a special show only discount.

The show will once again be held at the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds Expo Center. This 8,500 square foot hall is wonderful with its great lighting, ample parking and its easy access off I-94 is an added bonus.

The host hotel will be the Country Inn & Suites located on 1912 East Kilgore Street, Kalamazoo (exit #78) The phone number is 269-382-2303… please mention the Kalamazoo Airgun Show & Daisy bb and toy gun show to get the special rate. We will continue our Saturday evening reception tradition. Please join us in the hotel’s reception room around 7:30 p.m. for this event…a great time to relax and renew friendships.

Kalamazoo is a town with many fun things to do. They have the “Air Zoo” aviation museum, Kalamazoo Nature Center, The Crossroads Mall, St Julian Winery, Gilmore Car Museum and much more. We highly recommend you visit www.DiscoverKalamazoo.com for additional information.

For airgun shooters, there will be an air gun field target shoot in the area on Saturday. Please contact Chris Martin 608-347-8395 for information on that event.
The show will be held at the Kalamazoo County Fairground Expo Center, Kalamazoo Michigan on Sunday, August 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3. (Admission for early buyers at 7:30 a.m. will be $25) Admission for children under 12 is free but they must be accompanied by an adult.

If you have any questions please contact: Wes or Theresa Powers 517-423-4148.
