Took a drive with my better half this weekend. On the way home we stopped in a pawn shop to check out what they had. When I asked the guy behind the counter if he had any air guns besides the rough looking Crosman 760 He pulled out this.

The price was right for a Chinese made Sidelever. He had a couple B-3 rifles too. I passed on the B-3s but brought the sidelever home. I was thinking it was a QB58 or TS45. There are no markings on it other than a serial number.
I found an article Tom Gaylord wrote about the Fast Deer and mine matches what he is calling a Fast Deer. So now I'm wondering if that is what I have. I'll have to clean the cosmoline/ bacon grease off this thing and see if I can find some markings...

It's cleaner now and I pulled some patches through the bore. I put about 50 pellets through it and it is showing some potential. The wood is nice as far as cheap Chinese air guns go. The sights aren't terrible. The direct sear trigger is heavy but manageable. Not much vibration in the firing cycle just a nice solid "Thunk". I'll have to get the Chrony out and see what it's putting out.

7 of 10 RWS Meisterkuglen went into a sub 1 inch group with some verticle stringing. The CPHP I tried didn't do near as well.

You can actually see the grain in the wood, no need for filler or that ugly orangeish stain.

Very nice find. What's your recipe for cosmoline removal?

When I pulled it out of the plastic shipping bag it was "sticky" so I assumed it was covered in protective grease (cosmoline) but it ended up being oil. There was so much oil on it it had puddled up inside the receiver around the breech. I ended up just spraying it down with CLP and wiping it down with an old T-shirt. The bore was fairly gooey with oil too, I filled it with Balistol and pulled a dozen patches through. No magic recipe here.

When I bought my Mini Mill it arrived covered in red protective grease, I ended up using diesel fuel and a stiff brush to get that stuff off. I don't think I would do that with an air gun but it worked well on the mill.

ols school to get cosmoline out of wood but get a bath towl and lay it on the dash of your car n lay the wood on it.do this on a hot sunny summer day. takes 4 days to get most of it. I do 1 side a day but do 1 side flip it n do the other . I got a new sks and that's how I cleaned the wood. but wipe it down while its hot with ballistol every time you get it out of the window. I read somewhere a guy used a heat gun but that would be very tireing and noisy too

I got out the Chrony this morning and put another 30 or so pellets through the Fast Deer. It's shooting about where I expected 580 fps with the 8.2 grain Meisterkugeln and closer to 600 fps with the 7 grain version. The extreme spread isn't too bad at 15 fps. I'm still getting plenty of smoke with each shot. I'm thinking about tearing it down to do a good clean up on it. The way it's smoking it may take a full tin of pellets to burn off the excess oil.
It is hitting an inch low with the elevation maxed out on the rear sight and it's the same with a scope mounted POI is well bellow POA with the elevation maxed out. My guess is the barrel is pointing down relative to the receiver...
