i know that since gun powder isn't used that cleaning is few and far between. but when i do need to clean a pumper such as a 901 to remove a build up of lead or residue. how do i go about doing it?, would pushing a brush from the muzzle get residue and lead in the pressure area? i thought i might make a cleaning patch attached to a small nylon cord and insert from breech end and pull thru the muzzle and out, do you think this will be fine? i know it will be a long while before i do this, just thought i'd ask and see how you guys do it. thanks

Yes, the "Weedwacker" line technique would work. Marksman used to market a pull-through. Haven't seen it up close, but Hoppes offers a .177-cal pull through as well Boresnake.

Personally, I'd stay away from brushes and any kind of solvents in that rifle. The pull thru as mentioned, even with dry patches is probably enough. Most important thing in pumpers is to keep the pivot points on the pump lever moist with some kind of oil, daisy sells a particular oil that should be ok, or crosman pelgun oil. Best pivot oil is the Mac1 secret sauce.

You don't have combustion products or metal fouling deposited at high pressure/pressure, so you don't need strong solvents or brushes. An ordinary household cleaner/degreaser will do. Check out this thread for ways to do it:
