A friend of mine has a new RWS model 52 in 177 cal, he purchased it new in the late 90's took 2 shots out of it to make sure it functioned and put it back in the original box, it has the factory RWS 3x9 scope on it, i don't know the specs on this 177 cal air rifle, is it up to date with todays RWS 177's, he also has a new RWS never fired model 54 in 22 cal, purchased around the same time, what are the pros and cons of these models compared to todays models or should i go what is available today from RWS. he is askinf $450 for either gun, the model 54 does not have a scope, are these fair prices. but mainly is the performance as good as todays rifles.

I can't comment on the performance of these guns, but I'd bet they need some serious sevicing. New pistons, all new lube, etc.

I have a 54 , t0-1 and with good glass I can get dime sized groups on a very still calm day at 100 yards. but you must get a high quality scope as a 54 eats up averge scopes. I have a bucket full of cheepies that it ate. I put a bsa essential on it a year ago and its stood up to 6000 or more shots. I cant say much about the other gun. but the 54 has recoil rails and makes a smooth shot. only bad part its a better bench gun as 1 with a scope weighs in at 11 pounds or more depending on what you scope it with. as for price a new 54 is over $ 700 now on most airgun stores price lists . id buy them both and if you don't want both sell the other and make a profit
