| i just recently got my first spring piston air rifle and my first air gun in 30yrs. as i've allways cleaned my firearms i find it hard not to clean my air rifle after i'm done. i hate rust and any on a gun drives me nuts, if i'm not supposed to clean my air rifle how do i prevent rust inside the barrel? thanks |

Hey Boomer, How ya doin? Well first dude, there is no powder residue to draw moisture. There's the first thing that keeps it from rusting. Second, if you have used your chamber oil or RMCoil(same thing) every 1000 rounds like you are supposed to, then the inside of the barrel is coated with a fine mist of lubricant every time you shoot. That little bit of smoke you see every once in a while? That's not smoke, it's oil vapor. I actually wait 5000 rounds for mine and I haven't had a barrel rust yet. THird and foremost, lead is a lubricant. You literally plate the inside of the barrel with an ultra-thin coating of lead while you are shooting it. That's why accuracy will drop off for 100 rounds or so after you clean the barrel. Lead collects in the pores of the steel and keeps oxygen from getting to it.
And that's why you don't clean your barrel after you use it. |

Pyramydair.com is the only place I know of to get the right stuff. Your accuracy will drop off for about 100 rds after using it, so be very sparing with the stuff. It only takes a drop. It's known as RMCoil or chamber oil. NOT pellgun oil. That's for pumpers. Here is the stuff I use:

| Down the hole where the piston seal is. one drop only! That will knock your accuracy off for a few rounds, up to 100. |
