i have a stoeger x5 and it had a problem . i seen what it was but sent it back where i got it. they gave me another and its the same way. the sear is way too loose . it can move sideways .050 easy. im thinking about shimming it up with .024 on each side of the sear thus ending exces side play and still letting the sear move freely.the first 1 was shooting ok. then after mabe 5oo shots it didnt grab the piston when cocking, my bad i usually hold the barrel but it snapped up and did the usual damage . i removed the stock and cocked it slowly watchin what goes on inside. the sear was at 1 side and when it started putting pressure on the sear it went to the middle and also pushed its self out of the piston stem. i took a screwdriver and helt the sear steady and it went home correctly and helt cocked like its supposed to do. this is a potential finger removal tool when it gets used some . if there is any other ideas on this id like to konw. im making shims now to make the sear set in the middle hopeing it cures it permanatly . other than this i like the gun

I've had good luck with pop can aluminum for making shim washers. I fold the aluminum into several layers and then clamp the sandwich between two blocks of wood - that lets me cut a nice clean hole through the middle. Then I find the biggest screw that will fit the hole and clamp the whole thing together with two steel washers and a nut. I grind the O.D. down with a Dremel and abrasive cutoff wheel, using the steel washers as a guide. The last little bit gets ground off with the screw spinning in a drill.

i made my shims out of the old feeler guages and i got it where a .001 fits in with a very very light drag you can barely feel. and it sure set the sear in the middle. i put equil amounts on each side of the sear . i got in touch with stoeger/benelli and they looked at 5 returned guns . wow all 5 did what my first x5 did. they said by all means shim it up and warrenty wont be voided. the service man tried it like i did and he said your right it moves sideways and when pressure starts on it the sear starts moving out of the piston stem thus slam fire . i wonder what they are goin to do to remedy this ? he also said he looked at 3 new guns at random and all 3 was very loose .
