The part around the breech, that is, the block that has the Nitro Piston stamp, is that plastic or metal? It is a gas spring pistol. As I was shooting it the sights were creeping backwards so I put some Loctite on the red dot sight but haven't tested it yet. Hey toad, the gun is all metal except for the front sight, cocking aid, and stock. Trigger is similar to other NP Crosman guns. It is hard to cock but not with the assist on. The cocking assist affects accuracy in a negative way so this gun has to be shot without it or forget about accuracy. This thing is HEAVY! The gun feels a bit unbalanced I think. On a positive note, the gun looks to be very well made and it is showing that it will group well after the break in point and removal of the cocking assist. Maybe someone could make a new cocking assist/brake to fix the accuracy problem. This gun also cycles very smooth which is a nice thing about NP guns. I was out and spotted a sporting good store. I went in to get c02 cartridges. And it was on the wall. I love the Trail np XL rifle and this makes them a set. I can't really fire it yet with my shoulder just having an operation. But it feels good. It is east to clock if you a sort of do it in a jerking motion. The trigger feels a little ruff.
