I'm married. Past looking lies only pain and death. |
Yes, knock the idealism right away.
Here another one of my babies, one that I traded for a bunch of stuff. (None of them were airgun related!)
My 50 watt tube amplifier. Neighbours not amused. It was hand build by a guy named Peter Hoekstra, from Woodstock amps, a typical small business. He has a shop in the back of a factory storage. |

Tubes might be antique technology, but no semiconductor can beat the sound.
On the topic of "looking," might I suggest Isaac Asimov's book "The Sensuous, Dirty Old Man." It is unfortunately out of print, but you never know what they can come up with through interlibrary loan. He takes you all the way from the furtive glance to the cane-pivoting leer:

+1 on that. Something about their fast, transient harmonics I guess. But they sparkle and boom like no silicon can ever do. |

Mine is electronics, computers and off road mountain biking.
Hey Slavia. What is that bike? A NEXT with different paint?
Oh and why no front brake cable and calipers? |

It is a Next bicycle, sort of. It was so bashed/rusty that I had to use components salvaged from other bikes. The fork is brazed together with pieces from three different bicycles.
Here in Minnesota we don't use front brakes. We just wear our farmyard boots and jam them between the fork and tire - stops the bike jiffy quick. (Actually, I just hadn't got to that part when the photo was taken.) |

I thought so. I could tell by the rear shock mount on the frame. I have
welded a few of those front frame sections before. Untreated 6061.
The rear triangles are mild steel and never seem to break. |

Fly the little ones in the basement taking breaks from shooting, otherwise have to wait for good weather here up north for the fuel powered stuff.

Nice. I always wanted to try RC flight.
My hobbies are fun to make, but they just kind of sit there.

I've heard solid state modeler amps that sound just as good and sometimes even better then a tuber, though. Roland makes really good stuff. It also depends on what you use it for.
I still do prefer the old ways, but that's mostly guitarist conservativism. I'm happy I can get the dinero together to once in a while buy something.
I used to do model building about 10 years ago. I had loads of WW2 stuff in a 1:72 scale. |
