If you want a "legitimate" rifle, get the 2260 tube and forget about the 2250 tube. 2240/2250 tube will always be classed as a pistol - no matter how long the barrel or type of stock etc etc...

Because when they first brought it out, Crosman called it a pistol.... that simple.... Us Canucks have been down this roam many times, and we can't change the CFC's mind regardless of what Crosman call it now....

Ok Bob,
What other main tubes can I use to build a .22/.177/.25 Crosman style Rifle? How much of the Discovery interchanges with the 22XX? |

Virtually all of the Disco parts are interchangeable with the 22XX parts.... The Disco valve has different mounting screws (3 x 8-32) to handle the end force of pressure in the tube.... The front breech screw (4-48) is in a different location, requiring a hammer with a notch to miss it.... The Disco hammer will work in a 2260, not vice versa.... The Disco trigger is from a 2260 and will bolt onto the same location on the tubes....
Are you going CO2, HPA, what stock / trigger group, etc.etc....

Thanks for the assistance Bob! With CAF down for maintenance today I gotta ask my questions here! Like I said f you ever write a book or paper on the Crosman 22XX I will give you $100 for the first copy!!
I think I will go with HPA, but have zero experience with it. SO I have a HiPac for one of the 2240's and the other two are CO2. But I WANT to build is legitimate carbine/Rifle that would probably be HPA. |

Really two ways to go.... start with a 2260 tube or a Disco (full length or shortened).... Full length Disco tube needs a 24" barrel to be the same length.... but you can get a good number of shots.... 2260 tube you could use down to 14.5" and still be longer than the tube, but there is a rule that if you shorten a rifle to less than 18" barrel it is prohibited.... so to be safe, better to stay with 18" or longer.... The 2260 tube will give 1/2 the shots of a Disco tube....
You will want to use a Disco valve and screws.... If you use a Disco tube, it is already drilled for them.... If you use a 2260 tube, you will need to (accurately) drill 2 additional holes in the sides for the screws.... It is also possible to use a remote regulated tank tethered to the gun for more shots.... or to mount it on the gun itself.... Those are the major decisions to make as a starting point....

Sounds like I need to buy a Discovery! LOL!
But everywhere right now is out of Benjamin Discoveries! I assume the Discovery has a grooved steel breech for a scope?
Guess there isn't much to do to a Disco, probably just performance modifications, and trigger job.
I will have to make an RPAL out of that .25 barrel I bought from Gippeto also. Not looking to skirt the law, just looking for something fun to shoot on the 7 acres that the Wife and I have without going to the range. We have no neighbours visible and they don't mind the pop of an airgun.
Thanks Bob! |
