I've been looking these over, and thought I'd drop in here to see if anyone had or used one. Here's a link to the seller's page: http://topgun-airguns.com/scopes.html
holler back,

They are making out like they are the "manufacturer"- 'xxxx OPTICS use premium fully multicoated glass for their scopes'- take this to read "Made in China" and as they are really an unknown company, who has any idea what the quality control is.
You can get similar scopes from other, known manufacturers for the same, or less money. I would also avoid "large" magnification ranges- i.e. 8-32x- the more magnification, the more likely there will be issues. |

There is only one manufacturing "group" of "companies" in China- so any 'manufacturer" whose scopes are made in China can (and many do) make the claim that the "same factory also makes these (higher end) brands...".
The difference is in design and QC- Bushnell, for example, designs its own products and demands high-level QC, CenterPoint (Crosman) doesn't design scopes from the ground up, but specifies features it wants, and demands high levels of QC. Many of the other "manufacturers" with product from China tend to have lower QC standards- some none at all as they don't purchase enough volume for the Chinese to take them seriously.
My point is that anyone stating "made by the same factory as..." when talking about Chinese optics is saying nothing of any value. |

| I see your point. I guess a scope of little renown must stand the test of time and the court of public opinion before it makes a name for itself. Then it's quality will be made apparent to the world. Like anything else for sale in this modern world. |

That really is the only way.
Even among one "manufacturer" some models may be complete garbage and some very good (the only exceptions to this are Bushnell and CenterPoint which are generally very good) and this is hopefully where a reasonable dealer can have some input based on their experience with a specific line or scope. Unfortunately, it might be hard to figure out which dealers are just flogging product (i.e. like an OpticsPlanet and such) and which truly are looking out for the best interests of both themselves and the customers. |

Eric, reveal time. I am Darryl on the Yellow, so if you read the report in the link then you read my honest opinion of the scope. I did not mean to disguise myself from you. I wanted to show you the AEON scope makes a favorable impression. Everything you say about scopes in general I can agree with. I'm taking the opportunity to say this AEON scope is a very good bargain for the money, and also pointing out that Topgun-Airgun seems to take scope selection seriously. It's a small company, but somehow managed to get AEON to make some changes to the scopes it makes for TGAG. For instance, the reticle is new compared to the one currently shown on TGAG's website. Compare the one in the picture I posted to the one on the site to see the difference. I was told the number of turret clicks was increased to 70. The scopes no longer come with illuminated reticles (due to complaints from customers). The glass is clear: note the reticle picture again; the tree is 30 yards across the street at 32x,, and the photo was taken from my dining room, with the window closed. So what you see is not really representative of how clear the glass is. I'd say TGAG spec'd the scope out pretty well, given the price point. As you read, TGAG could have been more forthcoming about minor things that weren't in any way a deal-breaker. Nor did they detract from the actual scope in any way. It's a winner; a dark horse, if you will.
Again, sorry for keeping my real name from you. I took my own advice and tried the scope, just to see, and it met my expectations which were based on a better scope than what I've been using. In all ways it is. It sits on my most accurate rifle as the perfect compliment to it...so far.

| So Eric, you are basically saying that even though you can pick up a CP 4-16x40 at Wally World, they are very good scopes for the money. I don't disagree with this statement, I have one on my 850 airmagnum and liked it enough to put on on my rimfire. The features cant be beat, the only thing I would say is a drawback would be the IR, which even on it's lowest setting is blinding in low light situations. It holds a 0 even on a POS springer I had. |

That is essentially what I am saying- the Bushnell and CenterPoint scopes that are made in China are of the highest quality output based on Bushnell and Crosman being extremely specific about this and I'm sure paying for it)- whereas other companies having their scopes made in the same factories may not have the knowledge, clout, or budget to demand this same level of QC. CenterPoint are generally very good for the money. Bushnell and it's associated companies (Tasco, Simmons, Millett) also have some very nice units- at quite reasonably prices for things like the Banner, Trophy, .44 Mag, Target & Varmint lines.
As for the Illuminated Reticle issue- that is not so uncommon- I believe some of the more recent CenterPoint scopes have had the brightness diminished so stop this from occurring. |
