I just could not deal with the .177 cal Quest. After a complete tune and trigger job it was to erratic because it was breaking the sound barrier. It was either detune and put the old spring back in it to slow it down or change calibers.I chose the second choice because it has so much power the way it is.I have it ready to go but have not shot it yet.Maybe tomorrow weather permitting, there calling for snow tonight.
I have to Thank "RICH In MICHIGAN" for the the fine work replacing the barrel and adding muzzle break for me.His service is fast and cheap. 1 week turn around time!

| Sounds pretty sweet. How much do you think the caliber change will slow it down? |

Where did he get the .20 cal barrel to use?
Definitely let us know how it shoots now! |

BC and Eric,
Rich From Mich.web site
http://home.comcast.net/~peterdragin/index.html/
The barrels he uses are Lothar Walther barrels used on the Gamo 1000 series rifles.
I expect to get somewhere in the(pellet weight and shape will effect these numbers greatly) 900-950 fps by shooting .20 caliber...900fps being the magic number. I chose the .20 cal because of three reasons, ballistic coefficient, trajectory, and retained enery. It seems this caliber has the best ballistic efficiency for an air rifle..I did alot of reading on air gun ballistics and after all was said and done everything I read said .20 cal as being the most efficient caliber for a high powered air rifle.
I think most of us airgunners tire qiuckly of just shooting at close range.Like the 10meter targets we all love to shoot. It dosn't take long before we start checking out targets at 3 or 4 times that distance. You just want to reach out there and hit something at say 15 or 20 meters. With .177 you can do that but the energy loss is so great it won't penetrate a soup can.And a .22 drops so bad your aiming at the sky to hit your target.A .20 has both a flat trajectory and retained energy to wack the crap out of anything at those ranges.
I hope this helps you understand the reason I chose this caliber.

Hear hear, sometimes you just need to hit something that's to far away to see well. |

| Personally, I'm not too fond of 10M shooting. If I want to hit something thats only 33' away I'll throw a rock at it. I use 10M paper targets to sight in my guns after I've done some work on them or to see how a different pellet will group. I much prefer 20 - 40 meter shooting and if I had a more consisntant shooter velocity wise I'd stretch it further in a heart beat. But that gives me something to aim for in the future. |

I wish I had more shooting range. The only time I get to practice long shots are mainly when I go camping. |
