Hi Guys, I'm on the west coast. I've got a smallish pond in mendocino county that has been invaded by bullfrogs. Inspite of discouraging reports on controlling them (they are an invasive species here), I've managed to shoot enough of them so that I'm having a hard time finding one to chase around anymore. The only problem with this story is that I've 'worn out' 2 springer rifles in one year (a Gamo 1200 and a Ruger somethingoranother) and am now onto my 3rd gun (a chinese copy gun).

I'm hoping to bring these 1st 2 back to life if possible - they have similar problems - the gun won't cock when I break the barrel. The Ruger just started doing this and is intermitent right now - but getting worse (first try, no catch, 2nd try usually catches). Anyway, hoping to get advise on getting them repaired (diy if possible)

Aww, poor bullfrogs! I always had a soft spot for frogs. Dunno if I could shoot them. Probably lots of fun thought :P

Did you fry any of them suckers up?

well, I dig frogs too, but these suckers have killed all the native frogs in our pond and most of the bass & bluegill that I'd stocked. Someone down stream from us bought them in a pet store 2 years ago and now everyone's pond within about 2 miles have been overrun.

I started shooting them last year but didn't make a lot of headway, but this summer I got into it with passion. I even bought one of those bb machine guns to get my kid interested in the project, but the last time I was up there (its in Mendocino county), I had a hard time finding any. I recently bought a chinese bam 28 (.22) and put a big-arse scope on it. I set up a table above the pond and just picked off the ones I could find one by one. They've just come out of the tadpole stage so they're not easy to see at 40 to 50 yards, much less hit. Whats fun about it is that while they freak out and plunge into the pond if you get anywhere near them while walking - you can shoot at them all day long from a distance and they won't move, allowing you to adjust the scope and get a little closer with each shot.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep it fun because I'll never get rid of them - my neighbors are not passionate about it as I am. As far as eating them - I'd rather get my bass back...and almost all the ones I'm killing are about the size of your thumb.
