Making a front sight.
Today I started to make a front sight for my air pistol the Tungsten LP3. It is a new design. I thought let’s show how it is made. Starting with a massif block of steel. After milling the final touch is to sand and polish the steel till it is really shiny. This is for what I do it: making beautiful things...well…guns are! Surprised I took some pictures of the progress.

Robert.

That is seriously beautiful work.

I love the colour of your "bluing" I'm guessing that's nickel electroplating?

What is the rod for at the bottom of the sight? Cocking rod?

To blue the steel I heat it up to 600 degrees Celsius and cool it down in a special oil. The gasses in the flame do color the steel into blue. I do not know the name of the oil in English but it gives the intense color to the material and protects the steel against oxidation . It’s the traditional way of bluing steel.

The rod at the bottom of the sight is a part of the cocking system that keeps the spring under tension.
