I have just installed a steel breech for my Crosman 2240 pistol, so I am ready to purchase a decent red dot sight...Can anyone recommend a decent, sub $100 red dot with the 11mm mount for my pistol? I would rather not try to adapt a Weaver/Picatinny mount... It seems that the choice would be limited due to the small area for inserting the pellet...All advice is appreciated!

I have a BSA and a Tasco Red Dot Sight on my Crosmans. Both work great and only cost about $30 each. The BSA is for both Weaver and Dovetail, not sure about the Tasco.

I have two of the $30 BSA's - one has served on several guns for about five years. I like them. Target acquisition is fast, you can easily shoot with both eyes open, and my aged eyes only have to contend with focusing on the target.
On the down side, they have parallax error (i.e., the dot moves as you move your head). Just concentrate on keeping the dot in the center of the scope and you'll be fine. They aren't so great for precise work close up (like toothpicks in the basement). The dots are big and cover the whole target - move outside and it's fine. Estimating holdover for elevation at longer/variable ranges is difficult, because you don't have a reticle for reference.
I have one on an Industry B3 rifle, and the other on a Marksman 2004 pistol. The red dot transformed the pistol to the point where I chopped off the front blade and replaced the rear sight with a bubble level - I'll never go back. Whatever you get, be sure it fits a 3/8" (11mm) dovetail and not the 5/8"/Weaver/Picatinny rail. Big Ern's BSA is adaptable to both by simply flipping the clamp. |

I prefer the Walther/NcStar Multi-Reticle sight.... It is a tubeless design (just a rectangular screen) so has a wide field of view for easy target acquisition and the best thing is it has virtually no parallax.... You have your choice of 4 reticles and many brightnesses.... Weaver mount only, however, so needs an adapter rail....

I tried one of those on one of my pistols Bob and the parallax error on it was crazy. It looked really cool but after hours of adjusting, I couldn't get it zeroed in. The windage adjustment didn't work as far as I knew either.
The idea of it was great with the different reticles choices but not the product. Mine was an off brand. I sent it back to Amazon. Maybe the higher end ones are better but I won't be trying those again. |

With the reticles you would have a reference for holdover. My BSA's have a single dot.
Bob - any problems with sun glare on the screen? A lot of my shooting is in the morning or evening, with the sun at a low angle. I had to add glare shields to one of my BSA's (well, actually PVC sink drain pipe):

I've never found a problem with glare, and I'm amazed at how little parallax error there is at any practical range.... I prefer using the dot with a circle around it....

Im really enjoying my Walthers MRS! I prefer it over my UTG or tasco red dots. Its compact and light weight and holds a good zero!
The biggest issue Ive had when buying sub $100 red dots is the dot clarity, some are fuzzy my UTG Leapers and Tasco are a bite fuzzy but my MRS is crisp! |

Make sure that the dot is 3 MOA or smaller or they are next to useless
for any precision work. |
