I wanted an inexpensive underlever model to try to convert to NP/GP. I did read a review from some guy that does a lot of reviews on different guns and he said it took him a while to get to the point he could get respectful groups on the target. I ordered the TF87 just because it was the cheapest underlever airgun I could find. I'm new to gunsmithing airguns; my wife refers to it as "my latest obsession". Fortunately, many (inexpensive) airguns are simple designs, and easy to tune. I learned a lot from converting the Gamo Whisper to NP. Just changing the spring for the nitro piston, changing the trigger and piston seal, and honing out the piston bore turned an OK shooter into a very accurate and smooth gun. The parts cost was just under $100, inc ship, and about a days tinkering that could have been done in about an hour, if I knew ahead of time what was required. When I get the TF87, I'll put a few test shots over the chrony to have some "before" data, take it apart, clean and deburr everything, and see what needs to be repaired or replaced. Fortunately, I took some as I unpacked it, and before I wire brushed the rubber butt plate to remove the dried glue & styrofoam. They ask for pix of the 10/$10, too, which I provided. I got the impression PA couldn't quite believe they had made that kind of mistake, or, more likely, it was because I told them I intended to keep the TF87. First impressions: The wood stock is very nicely finished, although the checkering is more cosmetic than functional. As is typical on most inexpensive airguns, all the stamped metal parts are sharp edged, and required a generous amount of deburring. The piston seal is scored from burrs in the cylinder bore. I test fired about 120 rounds with different pellets, using the supplied open sights, and briefly, a laser pointer. I can't evaluate the accuracy yet because my 73 year old eyes don't work too well with open sights anymore, but I did keep 'em all on the paper at 30m. The light weight pellets are supersonic, with the resulting sharp crack @ over 1126fps. I will be getting a scope for it. The cocking force is moderately heavy, but I couldn't measure it because my wife has loaned out the luggage scale, but my best guess is near 35-40 pounds. The trigger is two stage adjustable, something not mentioned in the manual. This is my first fixed barrel, underlever airgun. I will be converting it to GP/NP, and doing some additional tuning. I hope my long-winded review hasn't bored you to death, but I'm home bachin' it for a week while my wife is off traveling.
