Took the first nutter yesterday with the new Disco. Seems like this AR is a lot more powerful than the RWS that I've used for the past few years... seemed to do a lot more damage to the critter @ 25 yards compared to what the RWS does. Is it just me, or does the Disco pack a harder punch compared to the RWS?

Does anyone have any info comparing the muzzle FPE between the two with a 14.5 g pellet?

I notice on that chart the first two entries for the Disco are obviously on CO2 as they are under 650 fps.... Not sure why the other entry is so low with 14.3 gr (770) because that is NOT typical of the Disco in .22 cal.... Mine is a very typical gun, and stock out of the box it shot 800-840 fps (averaging 827 over 30 shots) with 14.3 gr pellets....

I had a BAM B-28 which is a 350 Clone, and from what I understand they shoot virtually identical.... It shot between 811 and 864 fps with a variety of 14.3 gr. pellets, with most averaging right around the same as the Disco.... I would say that for all practical purposes they are the same power....

New to PCP, quite different from the springers! It was recommended to me not to exceed an 18 grain pellet in the springer... is this the same with the PCP? Would a 22 grain pellet be too much for the Disco?

In stock form, the Disco is best with pellets from 14-18 gr.... You won't harm it in any way with heavier pellets, but the velocity will be down.... Good for larger animals at close range, though....

Try the 24.39 (or is it 25.39?) grain JSB Exact Monsters. They shoot less than 700 fps, but hit like a brick. My disco like them.

Springers - heavy pellets = less fpe & fps
- light pellets = higher fpe & fps

PCP - heavy = higher fpe & less fps
- light = less fpe & higher fps

The weather has been terrible since I got my chrony so I can't confirm my stock Disco, but when my first one was stock it started at 860 ish and peaked at 870 something with Premiers. That was on a chrony I'm finding now was a bit off though, but everything I put in ChairGun said I'd have a 21" drop at 100 yards and guess what. It was spot on

Lighter pellets producing higher FPE in springers ?? Hmmm.
Is that not a slightly misleading quote ??
I'm no rocket scientist, but I think that would only apply to a specific
comparison at any given time.

I.E. firing Raptors ( 9.8gn ) in my Patriot would ( apart from being a bad idea ) produce a higher MV, yes, but at 1145 fps, would produce exactly the same FPE as using 15.43gn ProMags @ 900 fps.

Yes, using too heavy a pellet can slow the MV to a point where FPE suffers, thus making the initial quote true.

So I guess my point is that lighter pellets producing higher FPE can be true, but not in all cases. Wink

My experience with springers is that they tend to have an ideal weight range of pellet of several grains.... with lower powered guns doing better with light-medium pellets and magnum springers prefering medium-heavy pellets.... If you go too light or too heavy, the FPE drops off....

Same here, I can take the Patriot up to 18 grains easy, but there are no 18 grainers that are as accurate as th ProMags I use. Ideal weight range is a good call, aside from possible damage going too heavy or light in a springer, there is a sweet-spot in every power class.
Experimentation is good ...... Mr. Green

My particular example of the RWS Diana 34, .22, peaks at an even 18 fpe average with JSB 18.13 gr.-- CP 14.3 gr. get 17.53 average fpe--25.4 grainers are down below 15 fpe.

How so? I never seen anything as consistant as a Chrony F1 unless the lighting is wrong. I have 2 of them and they read 1/3 of one percent of each other, which is probably the gun's variation in the shot strings--not the Chronys'.

I notice they will read a bit high if you are using them indoors with a strong single source light above it because the lines of light make the sensors the base of a triangle, and the higher the projectile passes above the sensors, (or the lower the light source) the sooner it breaks both sides of the light triangle. Now I kill any stong overhead lights and use a separate battery powered LED light for each sky screen when indoors. Also, they don't like the flicker of fluorescent lights.

Wow 25.4's in a springer, wouldn't that make the piston rebound ??
It'd kick like a mule pushing out that much weight would it ??

That RWS kicks like a 30-06 with spit wads. I never really could tell the difference with heavies.

I had a RWS 350 .22 cal and she produced a solid 23 - 24 FPE...Can't comment on the Disco.

My Patriot is the complete opposite with extra-heavy pellets. 22+ grains has the thing wanting to fly outta your hands. 18 and below, smooth, but still a nice solid predictable recoil straight into the shoulder.
It even feels like it's being damaged firing 22+ grainers.... so I only fired 5 or 6.
