Just wondering if Canola cooking oil is suitable for synthetic / rubber breech seals ?? I read on another site it works. What do you guys think ??
I do feel the other site was alot less reliable than this one.

Probably won't swell the seal like petroleum does to natural rubber, but it does explode like petroleum when the air hits it. I use an occasional tiny application of silicone grease. A lot of times it can be found as waterproof plumber's grease at hardware stores or as automotive lamp socket grease at auto parts stores in little packets at the counter, Dive shops have it, too, for lubing O-rings--but read the labels to be sure what it is. Hopefully it will say 100% silicone grease or something like that. Or you can just order a 40g jar of Hill silicone lube for hand pumps from an airgun place

If you're talking about a newer (not 'natural' rubber) seal- and this is not a PCP or springer, no reason you can't use plain-jane oil (i.e. a 3-in-1 or a non-detergent engine oil).

Thanks yeah I thought about the flash point / ignition issue. seems as if I should stick to the usual lubes. When you say 'newer' seal, I assume you mean in the last decade, or so? If so, yes my Patriot is 4 years old. I do wipe down the external metal with 3-in-1 oil after each use, so that won't be okay for the breech seal ?? because it will ignite ??

Wipe it down with whatever oil works for you- keeping in mind some things smell (i.e. cooking oils) and some things are sticky (beeswax oil- yes, it does apparently exist). A petroleum lube around the breech seal could ignite- not easily, but it's possible, just keep these lubes away from the chamber. As for "newer" seals- I'm talking the last 20-25 years- no gun I am aware of has used a "natural rubber" in at least 30 years. Of course I really have no idea what Indonesian airguns or such are constructed with- could be bamboo and sap for all I know...
