Just my luck, first parts run of the year and... Smoked the motor on my 1982 vintage Sterling drill press...
Greg from Blue Fork Design now works for a electric motor repair shop just around the corner from my shop... He has declared it DOA...

Oops...The smoke got out of that one.
Too bad you can't get the magic smoke back into electrical parts. Every time I let the smoke out of them, they're done. |

This could have been a shop burner. I pulled the plug before I got flame.
The spot where it lives barely has enough room to open the top to change speeds.
I've decided to look into GFI breaker Plugs for the older equipment.
I remember as a kid my Grandpa's table saw going up.
He hit the breaker and grabbed a fire bottle to put it out. |

Just a 1/2hp. But was on one of the work horses of the shop.
I have a small HF bench top drill press that will keep me going till I can replace the motor. Using the mill for a drill press would be bit of over kill.
I just finished the first 2012 parts run last night and will be dropping it off at the anodizers today. He's saying they will be done on Monday.
It's not a big run of all models, but it's a start for Spring inventory. |

Maybe look into AFCI breakers too.
$175 bill is what nobody needs, but a fire...forget it. |

I agree Radar
Arc fault (AFCI) will protect if the short is line to line or line to ground (best for shorts)
the ground (GFCI) fault will only protect for line to ground. (best for water)
Wow 175 bucks is a lot for a 1/2 hp motor...but i guess the price of copper has driven up a lot of stuff. ( I just bought some copper pipe and almost had a stroke |

With Spring arriving early this year and Whistle Pigs already popping up, it's going to be a tough decision on which will come first.
Tactical Trunk Monkey (.22LR Short Barrel Rifle) or a new drill motor.

Todd, I'm scratching that itch right now.
While we where out for breakfast I got a call from the Anodizer...
My first batch of the year is ready, So I'm spending the rest of the day packaging and posting on eBay.
We have a new Anodizer! He does work for Tactical Solutions, other gun parts makers like me and he even has his FLL.
This batch is truly Black, unlike the last batch done in Nampa that was more greyish...

The website will hopefully be ready for launch at the end of the month. It will be an e-commerce site so no more eBay regulation and international purchases will be able to be made directly from the site to all Non-blocked countries. (ie: Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan & so on) |

Long barrel pistol or Short barrel rifle... something small enough to keep in and maneuver around in the cab of the truck or small enough to keep in the trunk for when things jump off...
