Hey fellas,
Figured I'd drop in and ask the pros this question. Any of you guys know the specs on the trigger spring for the Gamo Silent Stalker IGT rifle? I'm looking to lower the weight of that trigger through replacing the spring with one that is weaker, but I'm looking to retaining the length and diameter of the spring, just looking to reduce the trigger pull weight.
Thanks in advance guys! |

Don't know the specs for the trigger spring, but you actually have two springs in there. One is the trigger blade return spring, and that one always "weights" the trigger. The other is the intermediate sear ("strut") spring, and that one only resists the trigger in the so-called second stage. Some guys have simply removed the trigger blade spring, which lightens the trigger. (It doesn't have anything to do with sear engagement, but simply returns the trigger blade to the forward position.) Many people buy a replacement trigger like the GTR or GTX.
If you have the old-style Gamo trigger (with metal housing) all it takes to get at the trigger blade is to remove an "E" clip and a single pin. If you have the newer plastic housing then you'll have to take out the entire trigger module, which requires a spring compressor to remove the mainspring.
Go to this website:

Download the installation instructions for the GRT III (old style) and GRT 4G (new style). That will give you a pretty good idea of what's involved. |

Slavia,
That's for that information. I actually looking into the GRT III trigger, but wanted to try my hand at modifying it myself using the stock trigger. I used to adjust triggers, and tune paintball markers, but I'm just getting into tuning airguns.
Maybe I'll take it apart and adjust the sear spring to make it ligher and see how that goes. |

| The big advantage of the GTR/GTX triggers is that they are a true two-stage trigger. On your stock "two-stage" trigger the adjustment screw positions the intermediate sear nearer or farther from the point of discharge. The trigger feels like it has a light "first stage" because it isn't touching anything. The GTR/GTX triggers accomplish two stages with a geometry change, and allow full sear engagement on cocking. |

I took the Gamo apart yesterday, and found that it is indeed the more difficult one to moify. It'll require the housing to be removed, which requires a spring compressor. I wasn't able to modify the stock trigger.
But on a good note, both the Gamo and Crosman are able to shoot 5-shot ragged holes from 25 yards, with the stock triggers now.
Hopefully, we'll get to 35 in short order. |

| Slavia is correct. I just replaced the trigger assembly in my Benji Trail NP with a Charlie DaTuna GRTIII which now is like night and day! The GRTIII once I got it set and micro adjusted now has a true 2 stage and can be felt with ease. Great system for sure and the GRT is worth it's weight in gold! BTW- It is gold! |
