Going to be purchasing one of these soon. Wondering if there are any recommendations of one vs the other. Why would I want the Marauder instead?

I use the rifle primarily for small game (up to Racoon \ Fox sized animal). I won't be using a scuba tank, just the hand pump.

What is the max grain pellet used in either?

When I get this, I'll probably be selling my RWS 350 .22 . What is a reasonable asking price for this rifle? It's in very good condition, probably not sold with a scope.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Well, the M-rod has a higher operating pressure that the disco, which makes it harder to pump, but I'm pretty sure it raises the FPE. I do know that the M-rod is set up for multi shot and the Disco is only a single shot. I had a disco in 22 but I hated it because the pumping wore me out. I finally sold it. I would recommend the scuba setup if I were doing it again. That and a shoebox pump. I know it costs a fortune, but I wouldn't do it again if I didn't have the money. It's just not worth it to me. I would buy a blue streak from mac-1 before I would buy another PCP.

M-rod is more powerful, more refined, more expensive. The Disco is the one I have, and it is borderline power (out-of-the-box) for raccoon, but a lot depends on range and your shooting ability. Either can be bumped up from factory power levels easily with some knowledge and caution--and I wouldn't go below .22 cal. in choosing either gun.

I can vouch for the Discovery in my case, as I find it accurate and it points naturally. Pumping it up with a hand pump is quite easy to me and I don't mind doing it, but that's an individual decision.
I shoot JSB Exact Monster 25.39 grain. These are a domed nose, almost cylindrical pellet similar to a lead bullet. They are extremely accurate in my Disco and give me about 25 ft lbs muzzle energy, but I did shim my hammer spring slightly (maybe 3/16" tops) to give a bit more than factory power because that makes the spring have more preload on it, and it hits the exhaust valve a bit harder when the trigger is pulled, letting more air out per shot--but at a slight cost to number of shots per fill.

If I had to own only one airgun, this would be the one. I got a deal at Scheel's for $299.00 including the handpump. Scope cost me about $50 I think.

i heard somewhere that the mrod isnt very accurate with the .22... whereas it is with .177 and .25.

also, i heard the pumping wasnt too bad for the discovery... 80 pumps(4-5mins) or so to get it from 1000-2000psi.

again, these are claims i either read or saw in video reviews... would like to hear some more personal experiences. i will be getting either of these in a few months myself Wink

It seems that the accuracy problems with the .22 MRod have been solved in the newer guns, from the talk I hear.... The MRod has more power out of the box, and I would agree that a Disco is marginal for Racoons in stock form.... Shot placement is everything with airguns on oversized game, and headshots are mandatory for taking Racoons with one.... That means knowing the anatomy and being able to visualize the slope of the forehead, the position of the mandible, and other bone structures.... to insure you place the shot directly into the fusebox....

45-50 with the Benjamin pump that comes with it. I get about 20-25 shots before I pump it so I'd say about 2 pumps per shot. I can hunt all day on that. You can also use CO2 with the Disco with the adapter, but the power level is less, and the outdoor temperature affects it, too.
(I don't know if I'm letting it get quite all the way down to 1000 psi though.)

Defintely M-Rod! You can get this gun in .25 caliber which will easily dispatch coons; possums; and prarie dog; groundhogs; and most any varmint like sized!

Pumping is not so bad and you don't have to refill those scba tanks! I use to pcp it; but no longer due to the expense of filling tanks if you don't have a high pressure air compressor!

Get a Hill pump however and never look back!

Don't be too quick to limit your options to either of just those 2 guns. They are both pretty good rifles, but there are others out there that would surprise you if you take the time to look . Me personally, I'd go mrod if I had to choose one of the 2. IMO single shot is for break barrels & under levers or Big Bore Mr. Green

What others are there in the same price range that are comparable?

The Hammerli Pneuma/AT44-10 is one option. Also the Hatsan BT65 is another nice accurate & powerful gun that shoots at about 1240-1260 fps with 8 grain pellets in .177 & about 1170-1190 fps in .22 cal with 18 grainers. These are the figures I got from testing this rifle with 10 shot groups, cuz I was actually going to get one a while ago. The BT 65 in the end was just a tad too long for my taste. BTW the BT65 has an adjustable comb height, vertically adjustable butt, and adjustable stock length for max shooter comfort. Not to mention it comes with its bipod & sling standard in the box(2 less things you'll need to buy) Only downside to Hatsans is that they are close to rimfire loud. But if noise isn't an issue, you could do a lot worse.

Like I said, don't limit your options. Ideally, you should find a gun you like for the reasons you like it. Whether those reasons be cost, looks, feel or performance. Good luck.

Yeah, after the first 3 shots in the string I knew I wasn't taking the BT. I'd be using it for hunting and all that noise would just be counter-productive. But that is one sweet piece of engineering. I'm still thinking of getting one, just don't know quite what I'll use it for Laughing
But I'm still saving up for the FX Revolution, so after that acquisition I'll get the BT in a side bolt Mr. Green

Thanks for the info! I Google'd the rifles that you mentioned, they look awesome! Is it feasable to use a hand pump with these? Are they 3000 psi? I'm especially curious about the Hammeli Pneuma... wish I could find and shoot one locally instead of just buying one and hoping for the best...

I still have the Hatsan SMP, & I ain't gonna get rid of it for nothin. I just want them all.

The both guns are 3000 psi. The Pneuma takes about 80-90 pumps with a hand pump from 100 bar & unregulated you'll get about 40 shots from 200-100 bar. The BT65 will take a bit more due to its larger reservoir, & btw its a hefty gun at over 9lbs. But for all in all it's very nice piece.
