I would like to know how long my Turkish Webley Patriot spring should last? In terms of '000's of shots. It's well looked after, and treated like a newborn Cheers |

Very hard to say.
I have a phantom that received a very good tune and part of my basic tune is a light polish of the spring using "grey" 3m scotchbrite. I think that works out to "000"
I do this polish inside and out with the spring spinning slowly in the drill press by means of a tapered dowel twisted into the spring as a mandrel.
This light polish ensures that all the surface finish marks are parallel to the wire which is really the main factor in the lifespan of a spring in terms of sudden failure.
At last count the phantom had 30,000 rds thru it. |

There really is no good way to predict this sort of thing- it may last 2000 cycles, it might last 30,000 cycles- depends on all sorts of variables.
But, as SMP indicated, if you do some work yourself to reduce the number of such "variables" you can quite possibly extend the life of it (the spring in particular) significantly.
I would suggest that if the spring is of a reasonable quality, 10,000 shots should be no problem at all- 20-30,000 maybe, anything over that is likely only "borrowed" time. |

| Thanks mate, we good here in Dunedin, the quakes were up in Christchurch, around 350km north-east of here.We felt it a ripper here, there are unconfirmed reports of injuries. In Feb this year almost 200 people were killed up there in a huge quake.Very sad. there was another massive one 6 months prior to that. Both of them closed much of the city.Still to this day, there is an extensive red-zone,and over 1000 buildings are in need of demolition due to the big two back in Feb 2011, and August 2010.Cheers again.Hard times for NZ at moment. |
