in your opinion, what are the best / most accurate at long range pellet sold at walmart?? im about to go to walmart and buy about 1000 pellets to break in my never - fired phantom .177
im going to zero my scope for one pellet type and buy those from now on.
i rlly like the flat nosed pellets...the look like they would have a nasty impact.. but im going to be shooting at distances of 50 yards, maybe alittle more and im worried that being flat nosed, they more loose velocity faster than others? let me know what you know about this.. thank you :) |

For ranges out to 50 yards, Flat nosed pellets are "iffy" You may want to go with either Round Nosed pellets, or Hollow points. (Preferably Crosman Premiers)
P.S. Walmart does not sell a broad variety of pellets, you may want to buy online from somewhere like Pyramyd Air. |

Well unfortunately there is no easy answer.
First off. Don't buy a 1000 pellets until you are sure you know what your rifle likes. Every rifle is different and you need to try lots of different pellets.
For longer ranges classic diabolo shaped round head pellets work the best. Flat nose pellets are called wadcutters and they are for shooting target at short ranges. Typically 10m.
Stay away from gimmick pellets, hyper, max, fire are all to be avoided.
To start you off try crosman premier ultra magnums, crosman premier hollow point, RWS superdomes, JSB exacts.
Try to avoid anything made in china to start off. Some guns love them but that's the exception rather than the norm. |

Some guns have a preference for pellet brand/type, and some don't care. Try as many kinds as possible before investing in a large quantity of one type. Besides matching the pellet to the gun there is the question of your intended purpose. Wadcutter pellets are good for punching clean holes in paper, but aren't always the best choice for hunting or longer ranges. In my Slavia 631 I shoot RWS Meisterkugelns indoors, but RWS Superdomes are more accurate outdoors at 25+ yards.

thank you guys. i think ill pass on the wadcutters.. as tempting as they are..
ive been reading and heard alot of good things about the crossman destroyer. the hollow point with the pointy tip in the middle? |

If you're looking to do some damage try Polymags since they have way more way better reviews than Destroyers, which I'll never buy again. I've got a bunch I can send you but you'll quickly see why I don't use them.
Forgot to add that Polys (if your gun likes them) will be much more accurate at longer ranges as well. I've only used them in .22 but my XL puts them on the x every time, leaving at ~830, and my modded Disco puts them out at 937 average with quarter sized groups at 50 yards. Just a thought since it sounds like you're trying to transfer pellet energy, and those definitely do! |

I have never found a rifle that shoots Daisy Precision Max without looking like a shotgun pattern. Crosman Premiers are usually pretty good. RWS Superpoint Extra have been the best for me, so far. JSB Exacts get rave reviews, but I haven't shot them yet. Going to order some. The RWS I can get at Bass Pro Shops locally.
The lightweight PBM pellets are of no use to me. Try Premiers, they are available at most Walmarts, cheap and decent...but your gun will shoot what it likes the best. |

ahh im in springfield missouri.. i live right next to a BP shop.
its fun to look around in, but everything there is way over priced if u ask me, i can find most things there online for 65% of the price lol |

I bought a couple things there that were competitive, but some things are high indeed. Pellet prices are OK, IMO, and you don't have to add shipping.  |

Bass Pro is ridiculously over priced on pellets. With the buy 3 get the 4th free deal on Pyramyd Air you cant go wrong. Find a buddy to go in halves with perhaps if your dont want to throw down that much on pellets in one go or ask around on the forums. Alot of people stuck with pellets that dont work in their rifle.
Surprisingly in my Gamo 220 (.177) I would say the gamo rockets pellets are the best. Out to 50 yards I cover a quarter to dime with sound marksmanship principles.
In my yard to 25 yards Ive stacked or ragged holed
JSB Exacts Heavies(10.65 gr domed)
Beeman Kodiaks (10.20 gr pointed dome)
Gamo Rockets (9.8 gr domed, with bb in the head)
and Ive had decent success with
Crosman Priemer Heavies(10.5gr domed)
H&N Baracuda Hunter (10.34 gr hollow point)
and not to try again
CP hollowpoint (7.8 gr hollowpoint)-now with this Ive stacked shots and then for no reason they looked like a unchoked shotgun throwing birdshot
Crosman destroyer (7.8 gr hollow point with tip) -at first these were extremely accurate and I thought I couldn't miss. Dont have the time to deal with random issues like this, especially with how critical it is for shot placement with .177 caliber.
My disclaimer is that these are my results in my rifle and things may be different for you. I only post this as I was like the OP and only wanted to use pellets from ChinaMart for convenience. Once you get some quality ones from one of the major retailer, you will ask yourself why you didnt do it sooner. |
