Hi, all.
My Daisy Powerline 822 (22SG) was slowly leaking and hissing air from the valve when pumped up. I didn't want to pay shipping and wait for warranty, so I put a new O-ring on the rear of the pump housing ( the pump piston's cylinder) where soap bubbles showed the leak and fixed that problem. There were no assembly/disassembly problems, and it was not banged around, but now it does not group well enough to even sight it in.
I was delicate with the parts, but this doesn't mean I did not notice something small...like bumping it.
Any clues? Muzzle crown?
Thanks |

Sounds like it could be the valve itself leaking and the loss of pressure is causing erratic pressures/velocities and thereby accuracy issues.
at this stage in the guns life if the valve is leaking it could be just dirt |

Thanks for the tip, but I'm positive it's not leaking down now.
But I pump it up and shoot right away, anyway, and I can literally see the pellets curving in random directions through the scope.
I am starting to think the outer tube that covers the actual shot tube is somehow misaligned. There is about a 1/2" gap between the muzzle of the shot tube that the pellet has to fly though before it exits the hole in the outer metal barrel tube. Question is, how to find out and what to do about this to fix that or eliminate it as a possible cause. I sure am not going to disassemble and reassemble it over and over again to see it it makes any change.
What if I open up the hole in the outer barrel tube a little in case it's hitting the pellets? The hole is only slightly larger than the .22 caliber bore. Maybe too small of "target" for the pellet to fly through perfectly centered.
I love this gun in spite of the little problems, and just got it. I don't want to screw it up. (especially now that I've voided warranty by taking it apart...LOL) |

I honestly feel that you repaired the symptom and not the cause when you replaced the O ring on the piston.
The valve is supposed to retain air once it's been pumped in. If the valve is functioning correctly then there will be no pressure to leak past the piston.
As well a quick search on the internet showed that some 22SG's suffer from a wobbly barrel.
Unfortunately Daisy is not user friendly when it comes to nice exploded diagrams that would help guide you.
In all honesty given the possibility of a faulty valve and a possible barrel issue I would be on the phone to Daisy Warranty |

The O-ring was on the piston tube rather than the piston itself, but point taken. I think I'll end up having to call them and see what they say.
Thanks, SMP! |

| The barrel is tight to the valve body, but loose at the muzzle end where it wedges into the cone shaped hole on the plastic muzzle tip that is part of the front sight. I filled the gap there to tighten it up. I'll see how it is now when I get a chance to shoot it again. |

I gave it a try, and the barrel was solidly mounted this time, but the pellet wobble was still there.
I think I destroyed the inside of the barrel somehow. There were deep scratches visible toward the muzzle end, and this not from my brass rod, surely, so I must have gotten debris in there and shot it.
Well it wasn't worth messing with anymore and I scrapped it for parts. If the 822 QC was better, none of this would have happened. Disgusting.
But all is not lost, I have a Daisy Powerline 880 .177 cal. (same power level, just the smaller, faster projectile) and it has been a good rifle. Only things I didn't like was that plastic stock and receiver looks cheap and makes it too light to stabilize easily...oh yeah...and the cheap, blurry scope that it came with. I was able to swap the working guts of the 880 into the metal receiver housing, good scope, and hardwood stock of the junk 822. So I guess I now have a .177 caliber "822."
Behold, FrankenDaisy
I'm keeping the spares, of course
