Hi Guys

I have a question that is kind of related to the one I asked about oxidizing pellets but this time it refers to BB's.

I have alot of the Crosman copper plated BB's and I see they are starting to oxidize a bit and was wondering is that the rust from the BB or the oxidization from the copper coating?

And is there a way to clean them off? Or does it even matter about trying to clean them because there just being shot from smooth bore daisy and CO2 pistols.

Cheers for any help

Jeremy

I have had the same problem before. I'm pretty sure it is the rust from the BB. Either way, I wouldnt put it down any barrel of mine.

I dont know if its a rust or not, seems like I can scrape it off. I just have to find something that will take it off

maybe baking soda and Vinegar Razz

It’s probably is oxidisation of the copper which is put on the steel ball to stop it rusting, it can be caused by sweaty fingers when raking about in the carton for a BB, it’s the salt in the sweat.

If you have a big carton of BB’s it’s better to tip some out into a ready use container, that way you don’t contaminate the main storage carton.

Thanks Al

Would you happen to know of a way to remove it?

seems like a waste to throw the BB out if the oxidation can somehow be removed.

Probably not; you'll just get a foamy mess. That mix reacts vigorously to produce CO2 gas.

Go with the vinegar all by itself. I have used it successfully on brass doorknobs (brass being an alloy of copper and zinc). Or maybe a commercial product like Brasso. Either way, rinse and dry them carefully. I have a stainless sieve that I use for small parts, and if you use boiling water from a tea kettle it will heat everything up so it will dry quickly.

Or just write them off as a loss and get new ones. They're not that expensive.

As Slavia said "Vinegar" should sort the problem out. But it would be easier to throw the bad ones out, instead of having to wash and dry the treated BBs

Me, I would toss them and get some Daisy zinc plated BBs at Walmart or somewhere. Daisy zincs are very uniform and accurate in most guns, and do not oxidize easily. A cheap fix.

Id say that I wont miss a couple hundred out of 18,000 BB's Razz
