I just tried shooting an old friend. My 1978 FWB 124.
I hadden't shot it in years.
I seem to have a problem....
I'm getting 6"-8" patterns (Not Groups) at 25 yards.
Velocity is in the low 600s with Beemen Silver Jet pellets.
All screws are tight, and I've been shooting off the bench.
I remember groups being quite a bit smaller when I used it back in the 1980s to keep Parker Squirrles out of our surveyor base camps in Alaska.
This lack of power and accuracy caught me by surprise.
Not being overly familier with airguns, I've been doing a little reading on the subject.
While the gun has probably less than 2000 pellets through it, it has been in storage for the last 15 years.
I fear that the seal has slowly disinigrated over time.
Also, Beeman sold me a Bushnell 1.5x - 4.5x scope with the rifle.
It was supposed to be an "Air Rifle" grade scope capable of withstanding the 124's recoil pattern.
However, with the gun shooting so badly, I suspect that I also have a scope problem.
So, never turning my back on a sick friend, I'm planning to have the gun rebuilt to modern standards and mount a new scope.
My questions are:
Who do you suggest I have do the work?
How much should I expect to pay?
(Looking for the best, not an "Econo-Tune Up")
What sight would you suggest?
(Small varmints to 50 yards)

I seem to recall that the FWB 124 had a seal problem with age.... I'm sure others will chime in....
If you are in Canada I can suggest a chap who is excellent on repairs....

I noticed that you live in BC.
That isn't that far from me.
Is there any legal restrictions to sending an air rifle for maintenance across the border and back?
If not, who would you suggest?

If it's over 500 fps (which the 124 is) then it can't come into Canada unless it's registered which is a PITA and then it has to be de-registered when sent back out of Canada.... The fellow I was thinking of was suprmatic on the Canadian Airgun Forum.... I don't know if Len has any suggestion for somebody in the USA or not, but you could PM him on that Forum and ask him.... Tell him I sent you....

He has my B-26 as we speak and is excellent.
I don't know if he works on that model but is very much
a master spring gun guy.
He is in michigan but the shipping rates for me are well worth it.
His name is Ed.

I called Beeman and asked about a FWB 124 rebuild. They advised that they no longer service the 124.
Beeman suggested Dave Slade at airgunwerks.com.
He was their senior gunsmith for several years and has an impressive resume of experience both with Airgun Tuning, but also as a past National Champion.
I called him and was impressed whith what I heard.
Not putting all of my eggs in one basket, I also followed your suggestion and contacted Ed Ehrisman at airguncamo.
After exchanging several emails, I decided that I would have him do my rebuild.
I appreciate your help.
