I see they rated the .177 cal at 1150 fps. That's supersonic, and I assume accuracy will go down the pooper. Too bad, because I wanted a side lever .177 at just under supersonic, so I have the option of picking up pellets locally, if needed.
The .22 is rated at 850 fps. Pretty fast, but then I can't get pellets locally, and I'd really like that last 150 fps.
They make the 34 break-barrel, which is right around the sound barrier, but the break-barrel design seems inherently less accurate than a side lever.
I looked up some reviews of the Crosmans, but they seem to suffer from inconsistent quality and bad triggers. (comparatively speaking)
Is there something else I should be looking at in the $500 price range?
I'm going to sell my 1911 and get one of these, I think.  |

I have the 54 (recoiless version of 48 basically).... remember that manufacturers pad their velocity figures by using light pellets, so realistically you'll get about 10%-20% less fps than written. Pyramyd lists the 48, 52, and 54 at 900 fps in .22....and I believe most people get about 800-840 fps, using realistic pellets. I love my .22. it is accurate as can be (puts 5 pellets thru the original hole at 10 meters) and the .22 doubles as a squirrel killer. A number of people recommend the .22 caliber in the 48, 52, 54 lineup, as better use of the guns inherent power,over the .177. |
