I didn't get into art-school. With no real back up plan I'm kinda screwed. Neutral

Well broom, what do you want to do? Are there any gunsmithing programs or computer schooling you can do?

Art "school"??? !!! ??? OK- I'm being facetious.

I think most "true" artists are either self-schooled or they find a qualified mentor- all this "schooling" might look good on a resume, but I'm not so sure it's going to get your work into a gallery.

Of course, I may be barking up the wrong tree here- what type of "art" are we talking about?

Stories & Design, making comics and animated cartoons or films.

Art School or an Academy of fine arts is pretty much where you improve your quality.

Since most people can't become good on their own, there is the need for people who can guide and help aspiring artists trough developement, for instance in developing your own style, in other words, teachers.

It's very hard to invent the (or a) wheel on your own. In an environment of many artists, and assignments, you will see that it's easier and more fruitful to develope your own style, and techniques are things that is definitely something that has to be tought.

I tried for two schools because my options are quite limited.

I can't move away from where I live because where I live, houserents are affordable. They are not in the rest of the country at the moment. I have to rely on a whole bunch of stuff to get me trough and it wouldn't be safe to just start again in Utrecht or Amsterdam without my network.

I'm gonna try to get a paycheck where I volunteer now. I'm the only one in my line of work at the moment, and if I leave they won't be able to make any commercials.

I can try again next year. This time I'll follow the orientation course, something I thought I wouldn't really need. I'm not bragging, but people who are a worse artist then me got into that school. Razz

Well, I'm still safe. I got a back up plan. I can do an Orientation-project. It's pretty much a guaranteed way into art school (unless you have no talents at all) with a price tag. But it's affordable and I can probably still get government funding for volunteering.

On a side note: Yesterday I moved out. Independence day for me too. Mr. Green

I still have half a bottle of Mezcal, Bacardi Reserva, 2/3 Single Malt (Glen Moray) and 1/3 Tequila. And a crate of Euroshopper beer (the cheapest beer money can buy on this side of the pond).
