My biggest problem with Metal in general is that it's such a blown up and worn out genre. There's only a few bands who do something new but when you lean towards powermetal you get shoved theme-bands up your a$$ (pirate-metal, wtf?), and when you hang more toward really loud and noizy metal everyone seems to want to make something with a zillion beats per minute.

I'm glad some of the old bands are still around that at least make a decent noize.

The problem with a theme-band, like pirate-metal, is that it's not influenced by a specific style but rather it leans on a specific theme. Yar. This difference kills it for me.

Bands like Flogging Molly aren't theme-bands because they make folk with punk and rock influences, or for instance Dropkick Murphies, who make Punkrock with Folk Influences. But they're not theme-bands.

This also plays into the whole deal with Metal and Punk-coverbands, though that's more gimmickyness that I also don't really dig.

It's like inviting your friends to come over and listen to the lates album of Weird Al and then comment on his great usage of the Accordeon and how Polka has influenced him.

No one would take you serious.

I ranted. Lawl.

To be honest there are new bands I like. I'm a fan of Arcade Fire, I mean a real FAN. I dig how they roll, not putting up pretence.

I also like the Strokes, who more or less invented the modern "Indie" sound (that you hear a bit to much these days) and are still going strong. You don't listen to it, you gotta "hear" it.

Cake is also one of the best bands, still, in my opinion. You just gotta love that groove they got going.

But that all ain't Metal of course. Most good bands at the moment are either Rock or Indie. Latter one, not many new things lately that I'm aware of. I'm mighty glad ACDC is still rolling.

My playlist at the moment: Arcade Fire, Styx (Mr. Roboto makes me laugh okay? :P) Ozzy (Momma, I'm coming home, it's kinda cheesy but I'm Dutch, what can I say?) Bob Dylan, the Proclaimers (schottish accents) and ACDC. Oh and some Pink Floyd and Cake. Cake is good.

Bit of a mash up really.

Me, too. Jethro Tull is classical, right?
Beethovan's 9th Choral Symphony with the car stereo turned up until your eyes bleed is pretty good, too. Oops - I guess they're sound systems now, not stereos or hifi's.

Little Richard (Who I have Met) does it for me, I just can't get my head around this heavy metal, apart from bashing a bit of brass of cause. Mr. Green
