I’ve done a lot of work on my 2240 but so far apart from a bit of modification to the trigger that’s it, although it is set up ok and is smooth it could do with some way of adjusting the settings.
After looking around the net I could only find two retro fit trigger units, one was a two stage and the other used a remote shear to release the hammer, but was only single stage. So I decided to make a copy of the two stage unit and try it out, once it was set up it worked alright in a fashion, it was very critical on the adjustment and was not consistent, also the second stage was hard to discern. The other type which had the remote shear didn’t have a two stage trigger, so I never bothered with it.
What I wanted was the same trigger as was fitted on my TX200, one of the best triggers fitted on any airgun, the Record/CD trigger. The problem with fitting it in a 2240 was lack of space, but I got around this by extending the trigger past the front plate mounting boss (I wanted to be able to put the gun back as original made ). Once this was sorted out I had plenty of room to work, a bracket was made to fit over the original spring support this would hold the bottom shear, a new top shear was fitted using the original mounting holes, this would engage the hammer front when cocked.
One problem I did have was that Crosman put a groove out around the hammer, this is to return the trigger when not cocked, on my system it caused trouble by allowing the hammer blocking shear to move upwards and re-cocking the trigger, making it impossible to cock the gun using the bolt. To get around this problem I made a split ring to sit in the groove and allow the hammer shear to pass over it with out re-cocking the gun.
Once finished the trigger as exceeded my wildest dreams, very smooth and light on the first stage, which is adjustable for length of trigger pull before you come to the second stage, which is slightly heavier and is easily noticed, this can be set as light as you want and is very precise.
Target shooting with the new trigger is a dream 100% better than a standard trigger. If you want to make one you will need just a saw, files, drill, emery cloth plus materials, I used an high carbon steel for the shears plus I also case hardened them, the only part I used the lathe for was the split ring to fit around the hammer, but I think you could get away with a piece of 7/64” rod bent around in to a ring and cut in two.

Nice layout!
1. What thickness are the new parts?
2. What size screws did you use?
3. Was there any provision to prevent the screws from vibrating loose?
4. Have you noticed any migration of the spring's position fore/aft? |

The thickness of shears and trigger is 1/8".
The screws are UK size 8BA / 5/64".
I have fitted springs to the adjusters.
The spring did move on the bottom shear but I have fitted brass seats to keep it in place now, I was going to drill them and fit locating lugs but forgot and hardened them.
I have moved the second stage adjuster to the middle if the trigger arm, it was a bit to heavy a pull where it was, it's a lot better now the chang over from first to second stage is smoother.
To be honest it's work in progress, the final edition may take a few more days, but the basic unit performs brilliant.

Decided to strip down the trigger unit and finish it off with a bit of class, plus a few mods at the same time.
I have added a finger shoe to the trigger and given it it’s own return spring, fitted locking springs to the first and second stage adjusters plus fitted brass spring mounts and a smaller diameter cocking spring, the whole lot is finishes off with an engine turning effect on the new parts, pity it has to have grips fitted.

Another very nice idea Al. Kudos
Can't help but think the split collar you placed on the striker could be modified into an effective hdd...a heck of a lot easier to manufacture than the woodward design...and it won't break in higher powered applications.
Might have to give it a go if you've no objections?
