They don't care if all of their little country glows as long as they don't lose their precious honor. That is all most Japanese worry about. We on the other hand don't like to have ourselves glow as our own nightlight. It might make it easier to see the rats at night though!

When there's an awkward silence, make it even more awkward by googling "Japan WTF" and then show it to your friends.

The basic question: "Is the media telling the truth about Japan?" is flawed. This assumes the media knows something and isn't talking. I would suggest that today's "lazy" media- always looking over its shoulders to not offend potential sources of revenue, probably has no idea what the "truth" is or isn't at this point- and as no one seems to be thinking this is "big news" today they stop reporting on it and move off to something drastically more important like the Weinergate thing (mind you, the audience also drives this, so the media is not entirely at fault for the complete lack of attention span of the general population).

As we approach the hallowed anniversary of our country's declaration of independence, it fills me with pride to know we have a congressman named Weiner that got caught "with his pants down." You couldn't make that stuff up.
