Hi Guys

I have been looking at the pics you guys post in the fortnight question and see you guys get some perfect size holes in your targets.

I can never get nice clean looking impact holes like that, Is it because Im using paper and wadcutter pellets rip it to easy? Or is it that my rifle only shoot 495 fps ( as per Canadian law for anyone that doesnt have a firearms license ) any thoughts would be great

Hi Jeremy

Actually wadcutters are the best for making perfectly round holes.

There is a bunch of things you can try to improve the way the target performs. I'll just rehash all the tricks I've read

Buy targets from Cibles (canada) they will always work well because they use short strand paper.
Use heavy weight paper
Dry your paper in the microwave or oven just before you use it.
Tape your target tightly to heavy cardboard.
Spray targets with spray starch

thanks for the reply and tips SMP, I never thought about starch or drying the paper in a oven. I might give the cardboard tip a go later. I just threw a some cereal boxes in the recycling box yesterday too Laughing

I know first hand the cardboard tip helps considerably. Haven't tried the others (yet).

Scotch makes a double sided permanent tape, just like their regular Scotch tape, only very tacky on both sides. I use several pieces on the back of the target (in the middle too) to hold the target to the cardboard backing. If the target is against the backing it will produce a much cleaner hole. I have been experimenting with heavier printer paper, but it seems like a good cardboard backing helps most. I did try to print the fortnight targets on the back of regular heavy NRA tagboard targets, but the improvement was minimal. The other thing that helps is higher velosity. The higher the velosity the cleaner the hole.

Would one of the glue sticks work for gluing the target to cardboard? They are very inexpensive.

Hi Jeremy,
Glad your getting better results, I save all kinds of paging material such as the Pizza boxes, flat semi-stiff cardboard, which make a good backing to past a target against.

There are a number of things to use to adhere the targets and a mounting spray is also a quick and easy one but maybe a bit more expensive.

Don't forget about good old White wood glue. Spread it around and let it dry a bit till tacky and adhear the target.

Also if your in an area that is quite humid it would be good to dry the target and possibly spray it with a type of sealing spray for pictures but again this is getting fairly expensive too.
