Dropped a Tarantula into my Quest the other day, boy does this kitty spit some fire! There's been a tiny bit of smoke in the barrel after some shots so it's likely still burning up any traces of moly that got in front of the seal, but the lowest I got was 987, high of 1060-something (CPHP). The paper isn't nearby but there were 4 shots between 987-999 and the other 6 were from 1005-1060, the 1060 was an outlier and had the most smoke after the shot but not enough to obstruct vision through the bore. This thing is gonna wreck some house when it's called upon!
The recoil is pretty sharp, the lock time is much quicker. There is no buzz or vibration but the shock can definitely be felt in the supporting hand even though the recoil is only forward and back. Probably just a shockwave from the violence going on in the tube.
Hold sensitivity from what time I've gotten with the gun seems to be a little better than the factory spring even. As long as the butt is on the shoulder like it should be she hits home, even when benched or pressed against something.
Accuracy with CPHPs from what I can tell has stayed the same at 20 yards, maybe even gotten better! I only shot a couple groups but the pellets sure were going right where the X was when the trigger broke. Those more than likely won't get much use given such high speed from a tiny projectile with a huge dimple in the front but the tin is running low so why not burn it up, right?
Needless to say I'll be trying Kodiaks and CP Heavies! |

Did you use any preload washers? How many?
I may be looking to respring and tune my my storm
down the road. Currently it has a lot of twang and recoil
@ 13 fpe, more than my b-26 @ 14 fpe.
With springer tunes it's always been my experience that less
power is better. Those are some smokin' numbers tho. |

I'm betting it will settle down after a while to lower numbers....

| It will- all the springs with the funny names from the same seller 'set' much lower than they start out. |

Yeah probably. But it is pretty cool to see somewhat consistant numbers (except for the smokey barrel shots) be so high. I still don't get how the kick can increase but accuracy and hold sensitivity goes down. Maccari must be some type of sorcerer, working magic spells on his metals lol. At a measured 48 yards yesterday I was hitting the X every time with CPHP. Still pretty unreal, this became my favorite gun again.
I didn't use any washers or anything, just dropped it in. I was so hyped to get it in there and get some trigger time that I didn't even check to see if there was any more room for the spring to compress. I'm happy enough with it that it probably won't come apart for a while though, given hold sensitivity staying low as hell it's doing all I can ask of it |

| You are more consistent because of the lesser lock time. Part of this is likely detonation (your smoke issue). Once the velocity comes down you are likely going to find you need to try a bit harder to keep things where they should be. |

Okay, ya got me.
What is a tarantula? (other than a large hairy spider)
and why would I want to drop one in my air rifle? |

It's the name of a spring. The mainspring of a springer rifle.
A much better quality than a factory oem spring. |

Ahem- it was maybe 5 years ago, but the factory springs came up quite a bit in quality since then- the "funny name" springs- at least as applied to Crosman products, are now redundant and more expensive. |

Sniper is just pulling my chain- knows I can't stand the BS that comes from some vendors out in the world.
What's the link all about? To prove that ARH really doesn't like customers? Anybody "in the business" can relate to not wanting to explain/re-explain things to new people in the airgun world over and over- but to be so aggressive as to state it so blatantly seems a bit, harsh, maybe. I do like the comment about all the "old timers don't do forums anymore"- the "mystery" of how it was all "proven" long ago but that the sands of time have somehow covered this wonderful knowledge over is almost laughable- the reason this "knowledge" is not 'common' anymore is that it's dated and not applicable in most cases. But, this is partially why there are forums like this one- so new people can learn things from those with more experience/knowledge- hopefully with up-to-date info (this is also one of the reasons it's a bad idea to read a post from years gone by, not ask any questions and wondering why the information wasn't dead-on, things change). |

| There have been a few people I've talked to recently with B19 variants that said their spring broke with less than 2000 shots through it! Just rare cases maybe? In any case there is a noticeable difference between the factory and aftermarket spring, at least in my case. I've put about a tin of pellets through it and everything seems to be staying the same (haven't re-chronied it yet), easy like Sunday morning and spot on accurate. I'll post up some numbers when I get back over to my chrony one of these days. Til then, wherever the X is when the trigger breaks you can bet I'll connect with it |
