I decided to build this while I was waiting for parts for my carbine build from qbmags.

I hope to try my hand at FT.

Here's what makes it tick:
-AR2078 stock, hand stipled grip, modified for 2400 tube and qb tank block, home made buttplate with morgan pad.
-mostly stock Disco valve, with lighter valve spring, tapperd inlet, and shortened valve stem to accept the longer hammer.
-Chalenger 2009 Adjustable stroke, teflon coated hammer.
-RVA with Disco spring, allows me to adjust the stroke with the through hole Bob provides.
-2400 tube, drilled for qb tank with 3/16 pin and screw, drilled for Disco valve, interior polished to a mirror finish.
qb block modified for gauge and mounting with 3/16 pin and screw.
Crosman Steel breech drilled to free float barrel, Disco bolt and handle.
1760 barrel polished feed, recrowned, modified for poly transfer tube.
-poly tranfer tube with brass sleeve to reduce tranfer diameter. I actually pressure tested the barrel to 500PSI. No Leaks at that pressure who knows at full 1400PSI
-Ninja 13CI bottle regulated at 1400 PSI.
-Marauder trigger group, secondary spring removed, contact points polished, Chalenger 2009 trigger guard.
-Muzzle Mack Muzzle.

I'm still waiting on scope rings but it will be wearing a Hawke Varmint 6-24 SF.

I've test fired it but have not broken out the Chrony to tune it. I'm waiting to get the CP pellets to set it up for just under 20FPE. I hope to be able to use the RVA, Disco spring and adjustable stroke length to get a flat shot string. Can't wait to start tuneing it to see how well it will balnce out.

I really like the way it looks, old school 10 meter look?

As allways any comments or suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

As usual many thanks to Bob and Joe.

Very nice indeed.

1. How did you do the stippling?
2. How did you cut the border around the stippling?
3. Is the bubble level commercial, or did you do it?

Hi Slavia,

1 I used an old dremmel bit ground to a 60 degree included angle, I pierced it through about a 5 inch of 1/4 inch poly tubing to act like a spring. I hold it over the work about an 1/8 of an inch and hit it with a small brass hammer. It takes a long time but is kinda of relaxing in a wiered way.
2. I used a cheap 90 degree carving tool. I found the trick is to make a guide line with an exacto knife first then follow it with the 90 degree cutter.
You can easily make the carving tool out of some spring steel and a small dowel.
3. The buble level is comercial I think Brownells it was fairly cheap if I remeber correctly.

Heres a pic of tools:

I have used similar techniques and you're right, it takes a while - but then you get "in the zone" and it doesn't seem too bad.

Really nice work.

Slavia

I have a lot of tattoo's and I was thinking if I could get a hold of an old machine I could make it into a stippling machine very easilly. I used to machine frames for a friend so I'll give him a call about getting an old machine. It would make it go very fast and the detail would be very high. I could even start doing some cool patterns, although I think rifles don't look very good with to much art on the stocks.

thanks for the comments

Why wouldn't an Electric Engraver like this work?

Electric engravers just vibrate, stippling would require the needle to plunge and retract quickly. It also needs some weight behind the mechanical energy to allow the dimpling to be deep enough.

As soon as I get scope rings and pellets I'll post a graph and some targets.

I got my scope rings and pellets today, Smile so I did some set up and dialed the scope in. Cool

I set it up for 19.5 FPE with 10.5 CP's I still need to do full bottle string to make sure it's allways under 20.0FPE but for now this is good. I set it with almost max preload on hammer spring and around 5/16 of reduced stroke. It's shooting 4.67 deviation over the first 10 shots, Cool so far so good.
I still have a lot of testing to do. Rolling Eyes

It was a little breezy but here is what she produced at 25yds. after sighting in. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Wink

Set for 2.5 turns from coil bind stroke is .3125" less than Stock Disco. Regulator set at 1400PSI.

Looks like too much hammer spring.

Doesn't matter that much Because I want to increase the regulated PSI to 1500.

Gives me a pretty good idea of what it will do when I get it fine tuned.

Very pleased so far Very Happy Very Happy

Yep, you need less hammer spring and more regulator pressure.... If you get it just right, the velocity will start out a few fps low, climb through the first 2/3rds of the string, plateau, and then fall very slowly to about 200 psi BELOW the setpoint.... My .177 22XX based HFT rifle was regulated at 1500 psi and I was getting over 100 shots at just under 20 FPE with less than a 2% variation over the entire string.... I was using JSB 10.3 gr Heavies.... and it would pull about 0.15"-0.20" C-T-C groups all day at 25m....

Thanks Bob,

At least I'm on the right track. I haven't had time to shoot her for accuracy but I think she'll hold pretty tight, judging by the way she performed in the gusty wind. 10 Shots easily covered by a nickel. I'll try the JSB 10.3 as well I really like their pellets! Just thought I'd start with the Crosmans. Thanks again for the input!

By the way I really like the Challenger 2009 Hammer.
