Hi folks. I'm an old cartridge shooter who is new to airguns. I work at a gun shop in SoCal and a guy came in and gave me an RWS m94, in .177. The sights had been removed, so I mounted an old Weaver K4 on it and started my education. I have since put a Leapers 3x9, mil dot on it. I'm able to hunt ground squirrels on a private ranch and have taken ground squirrels at a guess-timated range of 35 to 40 yds with this gun. I also use an old Remington bolt gun with CB shorts, but the RWS seems to be a lot more fun, so I mostly shoot it.

I had no idea that adult airguns had come so far. I'm also finding out that there appears to be as much mythology in the airgun world as there is in the cartridge world. Mostly I'm looking for an opportunity to ask questions of others who have more experience than I do. I will try not to be annoying, but I do have a few questions.

My first question is; what do you think of the Crosman Titan GP Nitro Piston in .177, or .22, and why?

Thanks,

Pelon

Welcome to AirGunHome Pelon, I hope you find what you need on here. I have no experience of the Crosman Titan, but one of our members BB Gun Bob wrote a report on it last year which may be of some use to you.

See:

Have fun.

AL

Welcome to the forum, Pelon.

We live for minutia. And photos. Lots of photos.

The first thing you need to do is go out and buy a gun cabinet with space for about 100 airguns. It can be that addicting. Welcome to the sport and to the forum!

Hi Pelon
Welcome, I'm new here to and an old cartridge shooter as well. 5.56 and Mac 50 to be exact.
Air rifles are very addicting and there is much to learn here as I've discovered after 20 or so hours of reading. I can't wait to get about 10 more! Laughing

Thank you all for the friendly reception. Al, it was BB Gun Bob's test that got me interested in joining AGH. Since my interest at this time is primarily accuracy as it pertains to shooting ground squirrels, should this conversation be conducted in the hunting/varmint forum, rather than this one?

I'm a guy who has more time than money, if you know what I mean, so I'm always looking for ways to maximize my dollar. My tendency is to buy the least expensive gun that I think will get the job done without having to give up too much in the way of handling, fit and finish, etc.

I'm moderately mechanical, but I'm not very intuitive about mechanical things. I will probably be looking to install a better trigger in whatever I purchase, and will probably attempt any mods that will improve handling and accuracy if the mods aren't too technical.

For the time being, I think I'll just bump around on some of the different forums until I get my bearings.

Thanks again for the friendly replies.

Popin any time your passing, as for where this post should have been posted, I was waiting to see where it settled down before moving it. Smile

Hey Sniper. Sure, I get the humor. It would be funnier if it wasn't so close to the truth! Life on the Left Coast is a little peculiar for a 2nd Amendment guy, but you can't beat the weather and it provides a constant opportunity to educate the grass eaters. I'm a native and it wasn't always this way, so for me, it's a matter of "hope springs eternal," or something like that. Thanks for reminding me of the stunning irony of my position. You brought a smile to my face.

Welcome aboard Pelon!

I defected from the "Peoples Republic of Kaliforniastan" last year".... To seek political asylum...

As a former native Californian... I did not relize just how "little" freedom I had there till I moved away... but I sure was becoming very aware of the "Hate" the Lefties have for the Right...

Hi Joe. Yup, it's interesting out here alright. I considered leaving 15 years ago, but friends and family are mostly here, so I decided to stay and fight. My wife and I had looked at employment out of state, but the situations just weren't right for us. We were both self-employed and a move wouldn't have worked on that level either.

So, here we are, taking a "cold, dead, fingers" sort of approach. I met a guy two years ago who invited me to his ranch to shoot ground squirrels, so I have a private sanctuary, free from both the public and the constabulary. The ranch caters to horse people (grass eaters, mostly) who are conflicted by the killing of the squirrels versus having one of their horses break a leg in a squirrel hole. I get a kick out of irony at work in my situation and I get to shoot squirrels as often as I want.

I'm one of those fortunate men who married a woman who understands a man's need to do man stuff with other men. My life has been marked by camping, hunting, some traveling, a little guitar playing, beer drinking, and laughing. We have 5 kids and 16 grandkids, so we're kept pretty busy with family activities, etc. Because my wife has always been my friend, I want to consider her wants and desires also. She would move if I decided it would be best, but "best" has to apply to her as well as me.

Part of me would still like to escape the PRK, but a large part of my heart is here. Thanks for the commiseration.

After reviewing this post, I should have added "blabbing" to my list of pursuits.

Awe..... Blabber on! That's what the BS area is for... God knows we do....

Up here we have BLM land with "Open" grazing... The ranchers love us going out and blasting Whistle Pigs and Badgers...

Feel welcome to post as much blood shed of your kills in the hunting, pest control & varminting area... that's what it's for... Best place to tell your Tale...

Remember... It's your gun, it's your ammo, and therefore... It's your story.... Same rulles apply to fish stories...

BUT!!!! if there's no photo... the kill don't count....

Thanks Joe. The ground squirrels in my area have a flea that carries bubonic plague, so I don't generally get close enough to them for a photograph. However, if I do get any photos, I'll be sure to post them.
