I'm looking for a pistol to be the basis for a folding mini air carbine. It has to be powerful enough for small game, and it needs to be self sufficient.
Some background to help explain my parameters. I'd like a pistol with a folding stock so I can have a critter getter that I can have anywhere I may be in the outdoors. I want to use an airgun because it expands the places where I can have it. A folding short barreled silenced 22 would be great, but that's two tax stamps and a gun you just can't bring anywhere anytime. My reasoning is as a survival gun. The most common and likely survival situation is being stuck out in the woods for a day or two when something goes 'unplanned' on a hike or the like. I'd also like to be able to keep it in a vehicle if I so choose. A powderburner just is too much legal hassle and an airgun can take small critters. Downside is, most air pistols are a bit weak.
I know the Crosman 22xx is popular, particularly here, but I'd like to avoid relying on CO2. I want just the gun and a tin of pellets in a zippered case.
During the depression my grandfather had a Benjamin Franklin pistol (which I still have). He used it for exactly this sort of thing. They moved all over the country, and he was able to use the pistol to bag squirrel and birds even in Chicago. He got it after getting bitten badly by a squirrel that he'd slingshot. He told me he got the pistol instead of a rifle because he could carry it hidden and not have it taken away by adults or bigger kids. Makes sense. I'm almost 40 so I'm only concearned about it being taken by autorities, or by a rive if my canoe flips. I'd like to take the idea a little further and add a light weight folding stock.
I built one on a 1377 and decided it just sucked. I'm looking for something better. Suggestions? |

I'd really like it to be self contained. Maybe a springer or a pneumatic. |

I know you mentioned you have already build one based on a 1377, why not just convert that to .22? Another idea would maybe be the Browning 800 Mag, they are now available in 177 and 22, you would have to custom build the folding stock, but could also add on a fixed cocking aid / muzzle break. I have played with one of these in 177, and it is a beast to cock without that little assist tube they supply, but if one were to make a permanently attacked muzzle break at least the length on the cocking aid, or even an inch more it would become much more friendly. Just a thought. On the 1322 idea, you can still get the actual backpacker (2289G) from the Canadian on-line store, (Scopes and Ammo) and if I remember correctly the stock is removable without tools to make it more packable, just another suggestion.

| I carry a 1377 mini carbine with removable shoulder stock in a soft sided brief case with me in the car every day. It's my go-everywhere-gun. i topped it with a red-dot and it's great. |

You could have a look at a Rohm Stealth, I know it is a Co2 powered gun but are quite handy down to 50*f, also it strips down to a pistol and is an eight shot semi auto, also very very accurate.
Not cheap, but nice.

How about a browning 800..spring pistol @600fps .22..recoiless system.
They would be good with a smal light stock as they are quite big pistols..
and Benji sells a rebrand gas ram version..NPB22
That start life as a Hatsan M25...recoiless.
