Went out last week with a mate that I usually take it wasn't much of a productive night only 22 possums but thats worth $105.00 in fur to me so not bad but on the way out I spotted 3 turkey so we took one each which made our night a little better problem is I need a bigger freezer it's getting to full because after I prepared it I found I didnt have enough room so I decided to give it to another mate for Xmas dinner.
The last pic is just some of the game taken on our last club hunting comp.

| Possums, rabbits and turkeys all at the same time?!? I still think you must live in a zoo or something! |

Hi DAMAGE
I'm very surprised you can hunt Peacocks ? The only place you see them over here is on the front lawns of stately homes.
Also what do you do with them when you've shot them?

And peacocks too, Oh my!
This is becoming sort sort of children's song I think- only normally the cute and fuzzy animals don't get blasted by a domed pellet to the head in the kiddy stories. |

Over here peacocks are a pest they are all over the place well farm lands mostly the and the farms I shoot on are over run but it's the farmers that insist I shoot them really it's one of the conditions on a couple of farms, These things are hated by the farmers wifes as they destroy any gardens they try to plant so I destroy them.
The Cocks we take home and give to an old Maori man who uses the feathers for cloak making and the hens well they are yummy so they go in the ice box.
One shot is all it takes for these big birds one to the head and watch they fall to the earth and flop round for 5 mins but the shot ain't always easy as they roost way up high.
Turkey are the same one shot to the head and it's over. |

That's called a Melee attack, Works well if you ever need to perform a manual dispatch on your game and happen to have your UNLOADED Rifle in your hands at the time.

I think in the 'Disney-esque' world of "nature" these days the children all dance in a circle with the wonderfully cheerful and helpful wildlife- no shooting or clubbing involved.
Did I mention Disney bothers me a bit at times? |

Well I didn't know that peacocks could fly, unless they can climb trees!, I thought they just run around like chickens.

Peacocks are actually very good at flying considering their size but are a little slow on the take of but they get plenty of time because they will know you are there before you do yourself, Very good eyes and ears you see thats why we hunt them at night they hate flying in the dark cant see to well.
Turkey are a little different they only fly a short distance and at night when they sit on the fence lines you can sneak up to them and lop their heads of or just grab them round the neck I will be proving this over the next couple of weeks to a mate of mine he reckons I cant so I will just have to prove him wrong. |

Hi DAMAGE
Thats intresting to know. I mentioned flying Peacobks to my mate and he said the only resion you don't see Peacocks flying in England is because they have there wings clipped to stop them flying away.

Damage, how many of those species are native to New Zealand? Turkeys ar of course indigenous to the Americas; we have possums here too! Peacocks...I've seen them only in zoos; never really gave a thought to where they came from.

Nothing that I shoot is native to NZ the possums come from Australia the rabbits possibly from England I would say turkey I don't know and the Peacock I think is native to India.
Every species that we hunt here was introduced big game and small & if we get caught shooting something native that we ain't allowed to well the price is high even jail is possible. |

Your posums sure look different than ours.
And way to go on the peacock. The feral
peacocks that I shoot over here have to be
shot during the day. You usually cannot get
within 70 yards of them.
This one was running a full grown german sheperd
away from his food and then eating the dog's food
right in front of him. The dog was scared shitless of
that bird. It would hide behind a car and watch the
bird from a distance.
He didn't stand a chance against a 29 grain Eun Jin
at 75 yards.
