I am thinking of adding a PCP air rifle to my collection. This Raider Venom Viper from Webley & Scott, according to Pyramyd, has 1-Low on the loudness rating. See link (Click on "Specifications"):
http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=127
This sounds too good to be true. Does any of you own this gun by any chance?
Thanks,
Alan |

I am a but confused by PyramidAir- they list the gun as "discontinued" yet say it should be in stock November 19 ???
In any event- seems to be a real lack of info on this gun. Anyone know how long it was/has been on the market? The Raider itself has been around for about 7 years- but this is a variation of it, not the "original" item.
As for it's noise level- it has a built-in moderator/silencer so this is why they are claiming it's so quiet. As long as the gun can be bought in the US without a BFTA permit for the silencer- I'm sure it must do a good job keeping noise down. How much noise- can't say.
Here's a couple of pictures- it's a nice looking gun for sure:
Maybe some of our UK members have more info on this gun? |

The Raider Venom Viper is a very high quality gun it's only fault's are the fiddly 2 shot magazine and the built in silencer is not very good, most people over here who use it for hunting fit a secondry silencer, I have heard (or should I sat haven't) one fitted with a logun silencer and it was very, very quite.

Guys, thanks for the info.
I look up the specs on a regular Raider from Pyramyd, which understandably rates the loudness of this rifle as "5-High". Given the very similar profile of Raider Venom Viper, one would have to assume that this "1-Low" loudness rating must have been a mistake.
I think the only quiet PCPs offered by Pyramyd are AirForce's Talon SS and Logun's S-16s (without any detachable suppressor/moderator). I am hoping to find a quiet PCP with more of the traditional look. |

Well, there is another possibility if you want "quiet". As Al had mentioned- get a regular silencer on whatever you purchase. I know what some people are thinking; "silencers are illegal". Not true- there are alot of misconceptions about silencers in the U.S. The 1968 firearms legislation made them a "permit" item. Anyone who's clean can get a permit from the BATF- the problem is cost- permit is around $200 and then the silencer cost must be factored in. Some details here:

Of course, there may be additional restrictions for California- I'm not familiar with CA state laws... |

Oh, Eric, stop tormenting Californians. I have read both Robert Beeman's Article and Tom Gaylord's Article. I think we Californians are out of luck on that matter. |

| Webley & Scott has stopped producing rifles, if I am correct. Some Turkish company took it over and they suck at making Airguns. |

There are also some US Winchester air rifles produced in Turkey. It would be interesting to see some comparisons between Turkish airguns and Chinese airguns in the same category. |

Just don't spend to much money. Allthough they use the same machines, I've read and seen some pretty nasty things. Usually a much lower quality for the same old Webley & Scott Price. The Webley Patriot being the example. |

hi fiestarter000001
Welcome to the site, from what I understand there are no Webley springers made in England now, it has all moved abroard, mostly to Turkye. The old Webley factory at Birmingham is closed and empty and all the machinery as been shipped out. I believe that some pcp guns are still made here but not in Birmingham.
