I have zero and I mean zero artistic talent, and I was sick of always cleaning the outside barrel after shooting because my barrel loves to build up little rust deposits. So I figured I would just camo the darn thing. I originally wanted to go with the digital camo pattern that is very popular these days
but after looking at it, it seemed like a real pain to do. Then I found out about sponge camo, it is easy and I think it really really breaks up the pattern of the rifle, except for the bright gold trigger that is. I would love to paint the dials on the scope, but that will have to wait till another day. I just had to share this with people who I would hope appreciate it. Critique away.

Very nicely executed!
My wife did our living room walls with a similar technique, only using chamois instead of a sponge. I have also heard of people using crumpled plastic bags:
I like your result better than the "leafy" or digital designs. Besides being obviously effective, your results don't betray the technique that was used. It's random and organic, and very pleasing.
What kind of paint did you use? Did you clearcoat it? |

| One cars you can do whats called "marbling". You lay the paint down and while it's still wet you rub plastic wrap on top then peel it back. Similar to the sponging, but you need to be sure you lay a base down, maybe a few different colors on different areas of the gun |

I used Krylon camo paint from Home Depot, all the colors except black. I used a matte clear coat which was the only non gloss clear coat they had. I plan on touching up the GRT and the scope dials this week. Thanks for the comments. |
