Hi all. Totally new to this hobby. I am going to be spending tons of time in the woods coming up soon and I would really like to have a fun airpistol to shoot at will. I want to just shoot cans, bottles, varmin, etc in the woods.
My price range is $150ish. However, I would go up to $200 if it really makes a difference. I want a semi-auto pistol using CO2.
I am more concerned with the ability to go through things than anything else. FPS is certainly a factor, but I imagine there are other factors. I would consider a .22 size gun as well if its punching power is better.
I am not sure what else to state here other than the above. I would rather spend the money on better internals than all the fancy metal exterior, etc.
Thanks for the advice. This is something I need to order in the next 24 hours, so I don't really have time to read up and learn at this moment.

Welcome to AGH.
Newbie needs a 22xx with a RIM magazine. |

A RIM is a Rotary Indexing Magazine which is 8 shot, manually indexed and the 2240 is a bolt action.... FAR from semi-auto....

Although he will end up buying the 22xx, because afaik there is no reliable, accurate, moderately powerful, semiautomatic air pistol which shoots pellets via co2 on the market.
You should be able to index the magazine fairly quickly.
If there is a pistol which fits the above description, please enlighten me because I want one. |

I've found the Umarex Beretta 92FS, at around $200, to be that pistol.
Solidly made, accurate, and efficiently uses CO2.
Eight round "magazine" (though it does actually use a revolver action), advertised at 425fps, and made from aircraft-quality aluminum alloy.
I get 60-70 shots from a 12g CO2 cartridge (depending on environmental conditions of course). |

| Well then I sit corrected. Thought most of these pistols jammed very frequently. |

They might, but the one I have, hasn't had a problem in probably 500 or so rounds. As long as the pellets are fully seated in the magazine and aren't so long that they extend beyond the other side, there shouldn't be a problem.
I generally shoot the Crosman premier supermatch wadcutters through mine, which I've found to be the most accurate. |

At 10 meters, I can easily put them into a quarter, off-hand shooting, if I take my time and wait 30 seconds between shots so the valves don't freeze up from the CO2.
I do have to say in double action, the trigger is very hard, not smooth. If I had to guess, I'd say it's in excess of 5 pounds. The first stage actually rotates the cylinder. If I do single action, (where pulling back on the hammer thereby rotating the cylinder), it's a lot easier to shoot. Single action is probably (guessing here) around 2.5 to 3 pounds.
But if you like to double-tap, this pistol can handle it, as long as you wait a bit before the next firing cycle.
I've always like the 92FS as a powder burner, and the Umarex feels and handles very closely to the firearm. No blowback of course, but just the same, it's a lot of fun to shoot. |

| Shame you can't cock the hammer to rotate the cylinder. |

| It does. Perhaps I wasn't clear. When you pull the hammer back it does rotate the cylinder; and you get a much smoother firing cycle. |

| A Rohm Twinmaster may fit the bill but they're generally more expensive and unavailable in the states. Which sucks, because they're pretty fun starters. |
