BB gun for home defense

I recently bought a BB handgun that shoots at 400 feet per second. I told a friend that I may use it for home defense if it is nearby and an intruder were to break into my home. He said that the gun is basically worthless in this situation and would do very little to stop an intruder.

I admittedly know very little about guns, but I think that getting shot with this BB gun would probably hurt pretty bad. Obviously if the intruder were high on drugs, then it would not slow them down. And where you hit them is also important, like in the eyes or groin area.

I am interested to know what all the gun enthuseists on this forum think on this topic.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

A baseball bat is more useful than that BB gun.

Maybe a BB rifle. That way you could hold it by the barrel and swing it like a baseball bat.

If it were me, I would go for a powder burner or a baseball bat, as was stated. I would have just a split second to assess the situation and decide to shoot, and I would then want to permanently neutralize the threat. No "winging" him, no scaring him, no deterrent, no giving him a chance to take my gun - if he is a threat sufficient to merit lethal force, then drop him. (The definition of "threat" is different in each locale.)

I think a BB gun would actually be unsafe, since it would prolong the confrontation and quite possibly exacerbate it - especially if he is armed. Save the BB gun for rodent intruders.

A machine gun bb gun on full auto may deter juveniles vandalizing your home but would probably only make a criminal madder and more determine to hurt you.

Dead Horse

Powderburner or baseball bat.

Bigbore airguns are another Dead Horse After 350fpe it's in 9mm/.45ACP range.

EDIT: I'll Dead Horse because most bigbore airguns won't be using hydrashocks or XTPs

There's always the P-3 M134-A2 Minigun. It's 6mm, up to 600FPS, and 3,000+RPM. That's with the 88g steel bbs mind you. If it'll shred the thick glass of a TV screen just imagine what it will do to flesh. Only downside is that it's custom made with an average cost of $8,000.

I really need a gun for my self defense because I caught last night someone is stalking me.

My daq .50 would stop an intruder but I would rather have my shotgun handy.

A BB gun won't do anything but get you killed faster.
