THIS IS A FORTNIGHTLY TARGET, SHOOT ANY TIME IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

Target to download and print: Fortnight 116; July 12 > July 25 /2010

1)Print to full-size on an A4 or 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.
2) Shooting distance is 5m/16.4ft for pistols.
3) Shooting distance is 10m/32.8ft for rifles.
3a) The rules for shooting 5m or 10 m are that the distance from the target to the firing line should be 10m for rifle and 5m for pistol.
All shots, from whatever shooting position must be made with the competitor wholly behind the firing line but able to touch it.
Basically the shooter should be behind the line but the part of the gun not being held by the shooter can protrude past the line.
4) All targets to be shot standing
5) Any sighting device may be used.
6) NO rests or steadying aids are allowed.
7) 17 shots total, 1 at each target, Up to 5 sighting/practice shots not on the clock using the Green
8) 15 minutes total time (take whatever amount of time for each shot you like, but at 15 minutes-stop!).
9) Scoring is as marked on target. Only hit per target counts. Maximum point count is 156
10) Entries need to be scanned or photographed and posted. Please list gun, pellet, sighting device and total time expended.
11) You can enter using both a pistol and a rifle as separate entries, only one entry for each, but all rules must be followed.
12) Score your own target. Winner and Runner-Up will be verified by board officials.
13) An honourable contest for sport- to lie or cheat, is the only real loser. Please keep it above-board!
14) Each competition runs for 2 weeks. Your entry must be posted in the forum no later than 23:00 GMT on the last Sunday.
15) These rules are for this week's shooting competition and may change for others

Please make sure that the blue border is visible on your entry, plus the green dot is 12mm diameter on A4 paper.

Here's my first ever competition entry. Not my best shooting but I'm not used to shooting targets standing up. Since participation seems low I'm still hoping I get a podium position.

Gun: Crosman Quest 1000
Pellets: Crosman Premier hollow points
Scope: Tasco 3-9x40
Time: approx 12 min
Score: 48

Question: What's the etiquette here? Do I submit my first attempt or am I allowed to keep trying and then submit my best effort?

You are supposed to put up the target and shoot it first time, you do get 5 pratice shots on the target.

Theres nothing to stop you praticing on a diffrent target before you shoot this one.

So, I shot this target with the Powerline, but since the gun probably shoots 1" at 10m, I didn't have much luck. I think the score was 50 or something.
(If you are interested, I'll post it, but it is ugly)

So, I went back to the target rig, because it was just too frustrating making a good shot (even with that trigger pull) and have an off-call result.
Let me tell you, the trigger is just so much better.
Between pumping up the powerline and that terrible trigger...
Have I said how bad that trigger was?

The hardest shots were the outline circles, esp when they got small.
So, managed to concentrate on enough shots and hit something

I'm confused now. So, if you have more than 1 gun you can try with each and post the one with best results? What's the difference between that and trying multiple times with the same gun?
I'm sorry, I know I'm a noob on this forum and I'm not trying to disrespect you Oatring that is some fabulous shooting, just trying to understand the rules. Since I don't have access to a "target rig" why isn't it proper to try more than one attempt and post my best effort?

John, I have heard in the past that you can post 1 pistol and one rifle. You are just supposed to mark each one as the 5 meter pistol is separate from the 10 meter rifle. As far as multiple targets, Alstone takes care of that one. But you are allowed one of each. As far as i regularly shoot, I shoot one practice and one for real. I don't choose the best out of each; I post my 2nd target whether it was better or not. I hope this is in the spirit of the rules, but I only post one target of each. I just use my best gun for each one.

oatring is a special case. He has a professional quality match air rifle and he almost never loses. That was why he was shooting a powerline; he was trying to level the playing field a little bit. But that's like going from a porsche 911 to a 73 gremlin. it was too much of a jump. Now a 1077 with a scope would represent a little more accuracy and fit in this crowd better. Even a 2250 or a storm would have been a better matchup. But no, he had to go to one of the worst airguns made. lol If you own this rifle, no disrespect, but you would have a better chance of hittting the target by throwing the rifle at it. You would do more damage too. My son has one to learn with. Pop cans at 10 yards are about it's limit. I even have to pump it for him. We finally went to a red ryder for popcan duty. It's even more accurate.

Don't take it out on oatring. He meant well. lol

PS as soon as I get my printer fixed, I'm gunnun for ya oatring!

As oddtodd says you can have two entries one for rifle 10m, and one for pistol 5m. As for how many you shoot before posting is up to you, but keeping in the sprit of the competition you should only shoot the target once.

As for oatring he was getting some stick about trying a normal gun as against his Walther, as he wins most times he shoots. This he did and found that like the rest of us with an ordinary gun he is no better than the rest.

This is a internet target shoot where it is up to each shooter to abide by the rules, it just gives you a chance to see how you or a particular gun compares with other shooters. I change guns every time I shoot some are good and some are total crap! But to get a good score with a rubbish gun is a lot more satisfying than using a top of the range target gun. (Sorry oatring) Smile

Al, he wasn't using anywhere near something that would produce a reliable shot. Even a storm could kick the snot out of a powerline. My storm can produce some pretty reliable shooting, and I can beat that with my 2400. Of course that's why I use my 2400. a bigger hole makes for a ring touch sometimes where my .177 storm wouldn't. lol I go for any advantage that I get. Wink

I am going to get a GTX trigger for my storm sooner or later.
